There's no such thing as the Madden Curse. Period. Do your research on what is considered a "curse" by Madden standards. I've been saying this since WAY before Alexander got put on the cover. It's often missing 4 games, or having a worse year statistically than the one before. Think about this. If you're good enough to get on the cover of Madden, then you had a career year, possibly the best that player will ever have. The next year is usually BOUND to be a letdown/significant decrease in stats, Madden cover aside. This simple understanding of sports somehow got misconstrued into being a "curse" and that it's the Madden cover that ruins a player's season.

I'm just angry because the Giants have a shit spot at 11. So because the Cowboys sign TO, they're gonna win the division? Whatever. They still suck. Giants are gonna take the division. I'll be surprised if the Eagles don't come close to us or the Cowgirls/Redskins. This is gonna be the best division this year (NFC East).

i disagree with some of that, but it's pretty close for the most part.
i think carolina and seattle are so close in the nfc. i go back and forth between them, but i think i give seattle the slight edge just because they're returning nfc champs. also, there's more of the top 10 i don't agree with. here's how i'd do the top 10.
1. Pittsburgh - maybe a little bias, but they are the returning champs, so i feel it's justified.
2. Seattle - they haven't gotten any worse. they won't have as easy of a roll through the nfc, but they'll still be near the top.
3. Carolina - two nfc teams in the top three is silly, but carolina scares the shit out of me this year.
4. Cincinatti - yeah, palmer may miss a few games, but the ground work has been set. their defense should tighten up this year, making them dangerous on both sides of the ball.
5. Kansas City - this pick may bite me in the ass. but i have a strong feeling this team is gonna be tough for anybody they meet this season.
6. Denver - most of the same pieces as last year, plus a few extras. i just don't have faith in plummer to repeat the type of season he had again.
7. Indianapolis - losing the edge won't hurt them as much as some people think, but i think there's a lot of work that needs done on this team. the pressure to win now after last season's ending may weigh down on them. plus, the afc is overly competitive.
8. Jacksonville - worst 12 win team ever? probably. but only one major loss and the experience of a winning season under their belt. also, one of the better backup qb's even if leftwich can't stay healthy.
9t. Miami - i really like what this team has done. saban worked wonders as a first year coach and made some noise. the team has upgraded their biggest weakness and are in a division where the best team just may be on the way down. real possibility they make some noise.
9t. New England - they may be on the way down, but brady and belichek make me believe that may not be the case. they made some nice moves. i can't put them below the dolphins until they either slip, or the dolphins step up. those two should make that division interesting.
10. Dallas - yeah, i cheated. there's 11, but i felt guilty about only having two nfc teams. if all the pieces fall into place, dallas has the capability to be extremely competitive. sadly for them though, they're in a division that will be beating each other up all season.

that division's a pick em. it'll be hard to say any team's better than any other without getting disagreed with. that'll be the most competitive division from top to bottom.
here's my reasoning though:
washington - they had absolutely no offense last year. yeah, they got some help, but can brunell perform? adding randle el and brandon lloyd aren't the answer, i don't think. i just have too many questions about the skins.
new york - eli hasn't shown me enough yet. and they wouldn't have been as good last year if tiki didn't have that team on his back. he had too good a season to expect him to duplicate it again. i also don't expect plaxico to be as effective as last year.
philadelphia - this is just a mere question of everybody coming back healthy and getting back into their true form. if they can, i think they take the division. but that's too many if's.
yeah, i have my questions about dallas too, but when it comes down to it, i have fewer questions about them than the rest of the division.

i'm biased, but by saying that i was using bias. the way it's worded though, biased may have read better. oh well.
i'm shaky about dallas as well, but the way i see the nfc, i don't see any strong contenders other than the top two. so to make it fair and put a third up at the top, i basically had to go with one out of the east.

The Cowboys offense has the potential to be explosive. They have one of the best receivers, a very good running back and a quarterback who has been great before and could do it again. It depends on Bledsoe.

I agree about Plax and Tiki, but Eli hasn't shown you enough? The game he lost and threw for over 300 yards against the Chargers? The game against the Broncos with that clutch TD throw with 10 seconds left? The best reciever they have is gonna be Shockey either way. Arrington lifts the Defense up alot too.

eli's had moments. i'm not saying he's not a good, or on the verge of great, qb. but there's too often when he's ineffective. seems like he started last season stronger than he finished it, and that's never good.
is he a good qb? yeah. he's proven that much. can he carry a team the way an elite qb does? not sure. he hasn't shown he can yet.

understandable, considering you're a giants fan and all. that's what you're supposed to do.
in all honesty though, any of the four teams could win that division and not surprise me. it's so hard to rank the east. it'll be easier when i actually go schedule by schedule and pick game for game. i haven't done that yet.
but, it'll be such a dogfight to win that division. so whoever does end up on top will be more than playoff ready. i think it's seattle or carolina that takes the nfc, but if anybody out of the east storms through there and takes it, i won't be surprised.

Lions have no shot, Vikings downgraded over teh offseason minus the pickup of that OT from Seattle. Chicago will be decent, but they got a lot of lucky breaks last year and could fall off. And the lions at 24. what's the over/under on them plummeting to the bottom 2 or 3?
If they do anything right they'll fucking suck this year so we can get Brady Quinn with the top pick next year. but we'd probably use it on a WR like Jarrett from USC or on some fucking RB that can take more time away from Kevin jones, because, you know, he's not the most talented offensive player we have or anything.

yeah, winning 5 or 6 could be argued as overachieving when it comes to the lions.

I hope not. they need to suck this year or pull the wool over someone's eyes in some trade where we send mike williams+charles rogers to someone for the #1 pick to get quinn. Anything else in next years draft is a bust.
so, you want the lions to take brady quinn? i hadn't noticed, haha.

basically. but chances are we'll be just mediocre enough to miss out on him. We'll get some shitty RB that can take even more time away from kevin jones. fjdaslfjsdoaphfahg I don't know why i even watch football.

no way. there are no comparisons between troy smith's game and vince young's. troy smith has proven he can play quarterback. he doesn't just take off after one or two reads. he runs as an absolute last resort. he sits and waits for plays to develops. and if they don't he uses his athleticism to create plays. troy smith runs the quarterback position extremely well.
he makes good decisions, has a hell of an arm and can read defenses. he'll turn a lot of heads this year. i honestly think the heisman comes down to him and brady quinn.

Eh, i'm not sold on him. even with a good bowl game and a great senior year I don't see him as an NFL QB.

that's fine if you're not sold on him, but comparing him to vince young was a slap in the face.
i don't think he'll be a great pro quarterback, but i think he has the tools to be better than average.

i will cry if we don't get a top 3 pick. that should be the mission this year. everyone just do what we normally do and suck and skip meetings and be lazy and not run during practice and have a shitty o-line but put all the blame squarely on a QB even though everyone hates him on his team so we can secure this top 3 pick.

i'm clearly not a closet lions fan* like you, but i don't understand wanting quinn so bad.
kitna can play, he'll get you through this year. but mccown is fucking talented. that kid's got loads and loads of potential. all he needs is to be given a steady chance.
don't get me wrong, getting quinn would be nice for ya, but i'm thinking you'll have more pressing needs going into next season.

Kitna can play but he's not the long term answer. And neither is McCown. brady quinn will be twice the QB McCown will ever be, no matter how much potential he has. QB, by the end of next year is a pressing need. behind kitna and McCown it's Dan Orlovsky from UConn.
and I don't know where that kid came from. he took offense to me saying that the blue jays/rockies rekindling their rivlary are basically what sucks about interleague play and then he tried to sound like the Rockies are actually a good team for beating toronto and oakland.

true about kitna not being long term. but i think mccown can be. and yes, quinn will be twice the qb mccown will ever be, but i still think mccown will be able to lead a team very well. i just want to see him finally get his chance.
if you get the chance at quinn, no fucking way do you pass it up. but it just doesn't seem like the end of the world if you don't get him.

good point. i doubt he would though. i could understand him dropping to like 3 or 4 depending on the teams that are picking high (SF, Tennessee maybe, Houston), but it all depends on how much we suck this year.

Bollinger and Clemens. Mangini is giving them all even time with the first team offense and has declared open season on the QB job.

bollinger pretty much proved last year how worthless he is. ramsey is a glorified backup.
if chad goes down again, all hell breaks loose.

The thing is, nobody wants Pennington around. Mangini doesn't want him. They're looking for any reason not to start him. If Bollinger or Clemens (who has a better chance to start at some point this season than I think people realize) can impress, I wouldn't be shocked if he threw one of them in there.

he might as well. If he throws pennington in there, he'll get hurt so Clemens would have to get pressed into time. So he should be giving Clemens time with the 1st team because he's guaranteed to play this year.

i think clemens will be really good. but if he's thrown in there too soon with that team, that'll ruin him. i just don't want to see that happen.
i'd like to see pennington stay healthy though and play to his ability. that may quiet a lot of the critics. i'd just like to see one more good season out of him, at least to make him desireable if the jets want to get rid of him / dump him.

I don't. he's the only MAC QB i hate. but only because he beat Western Michigan on a TD Scramble with like 14 seconds left in the MAC Championship game his Senior year I think it was.

clemens will be the first post-tedford system quarterback from university of oregon(akili smith, harrington, and even though he wasn't suppose to be a 'star' aj feely). it'll be interesting to see how he does. it's too bad that he got hurt last year, they probably would have beaten the sooners.
