Anyone else here enjoy the Winning Eleven series? I switched to it from FIFA 06 and I cant go back, the lack of licenses hurt, but in WE 9 more teams were added. The gameplay is enough to make up for the lack of clubs.

I cant get enough of this game.

Yeah this game is awesome, I switched from Fifa too. Once me and Fran (allelish) were playing Pro Evolution Soccer 4, (The European name for the series.) from about 11:00pm, till 9:00am the next day.
PES5 I have recently liked alot more, I hated it for the first few months. Roll on PES6 (Winning Eleven 10) for the 360!

it's NBA Jam for soccer. It's seriously the most fun game ever.

I'm a HUGE fifa fan. I buy them every year and play the shit out of them. I've rented the WE series, and I just don't find them that impressive. I find FIFA to be better overall.

"NBA Jam" soccer would be more like Sega Soccer Slam or Mario Strikers.

Both of which are basically the same game, though I prefer Strikers since the goalie AI is a bit better and the items add a lot to it.

Same.

The gameplay in WE is far superior, wether it's animations, AI or realism. That is how I feel of course, although after playing FIFA for so long I don't see how people still would take it's gameplay over WE's.

This is no longer true after Fifa 07, which is about a million times better than 06 and far more realistic. I've played both now and WE doesn't compare...plus the lack of licenses is fucking lame.

I can't stand those types of games. I mean I enjoyed the original Blitz games in the arcade and all. But NHL Hitz, MLB Slugfest, and Red Card are just stupid. I like the games to be a bit more realistic. But if they made a John Daley's Bogeys, I would have bought it just so I could shit on the green.

I like realistic games too, but there's something to be said for arcade style sports games multiplayer. kicking people in the face and body slamming players as they're about to shoot will always be fun.

and slugfest is the worst franchise ever. you can't make baseball arcade style and rough and tufffff like that.

you have obviously not played fifa 07, yet remain blind and ignorant in your argument for winning eleven, as you continue to ignore rebuttals involving fifa 07.

since I wrote this, i totally disagree. I WAS DEAD WRONG. WE>>>>>>>>>>>FIFA
FIFA is too easy. If you are playing your friends, there is equal enjoyment, but I feel more realistic gameplay from WE. I haven't played 07 or this year's WC, but 06 was shit compared to WE, and from everything I've seen, it is still the same now (FIFA is too easy, etc).

Same.

play WE for a month. Start with Real Madrid (ugh, so nasty) and play your way up. You'll fall in love with WE

except for the crowd animation, or lack thereof

Because it's a better game.

FIFA should be. It has every chance to be. It has a lot more money behind it and, comparing last year's version of each, better graphics for the most part. It also has better music. If it wasn't ridiculously easy and didn't make simple things hard, I'd prefer it. Until it does I'll stick with WE.

FIFA 07 can't even compete with Pro Evo 6(WE9 as some of you may call it)
FIFA may have more teams and leagues, but the gameplay on PES is much better.
Pro Evolution also has a lot more countries.

I have played a couple games with someone and couldn't stand it at all. Just like someone else just said above me, it is too easy. The AI is awful and no real strategy is needed to succeed unlike the WE series. What rebuttals have I ignored? The ones that just say, "Dude FIFA is a better game". Why is that though? Because it has more teams and better looking graphics? I will take more realistic animations and better gameplay over more licensed teams and better looking models any day, if others don't then that is fine but that would be a better response than just saying FIFA>>>>>WE.

You are incredibly thick-headed and close minded. You talk about giving the other game a real chance, yet you admit to only playing Fifa (year unspecified) for "a few games." And you expect somebody that's played Fifa for years to just love Winning Eleven right away? Reality check. I hated Winning Eleven for the first several hours I played it, but I wanted to get through that and get a hang of it. So unlike your shit-talking, ignorant ass, I played 15-20 hours of Winning Eleven (just because of all the talk), and I enjoyed it. It's a smooth, smart soccer game. I think the gameplay is great. If this was an argument against Fifa 06, I would actually agree with you. Here's where it loses me. The manager mode is set up awkwardly and the interface is very unfriendly to the user. Starting with a default roster of fake players is lame, to say the least, and if you want to start with a club full of good players, what are your choices? Arsenal, Chelsea, Real Madrid? Barcelona? I think they're on there - I think that's about it for premier Euro teams. So if you're a soccer fan and you have a favorite team, don't you think you'd want to play with them in a game? You can't just brush off licenses like it's no big deal, because it is a huge deal.

Fifa 07 solved the "ball attatched to a string" problem in other games. The movement is far more realistic, the ball takes bounces that make sense, and one-touches and jukes work far better. There's a ton of depth to the passing now, with 6 or 7 different ways to pass - early crosses, ground gross, early ground gross, lob, lob lead pass, etc etc. Finishing takes skill now, as they added a finesse shot option to sneak ground shots by rushing keepers or chip one into the upper V. Free kicks are stellar, you have full spin control of the ball (new in 07) and can switch to any player in a free kick, fake the shot, or have the holder turn and fire off the shot himself. Plus, the defenses AI adjusts throughout a season to your style of play. If all you like to do is try and get breakaways, they'll drop back in a flat back formation and force you to beat them with set pieces or well-timed passes into the box.

Multiplayer is unrivalved from a fun standpoint. The Lounge is a system where 8 players can all have profiles, then compete against each other and they get ranking points that go up and down based on goal differential, difficulty of opponent, quality of teams being played, etc etc. With a house full of 4 guys who love the game, there's no contest for fun there. Plus, the 4-player option works better than any other soccer game out there.

I've played probably 130 hours or so of Fifa 07, and there's still things to the game I've yet to master, where as in 07 and World Cup I had pretty much figured out how to score after 30 hours.

The manager mode is great, scouting out young players, raising stars through your youth academy, making bids on big names in the transfer season, controlling ticket prices and accepting sponsorships, dealing with player morale and happiness, and adjusting your lineups so that every player's skills are maximized at their current position.

Fifa 07 > WE 6.

I played a few matches of FIFA 07, however I owned every FIFA game from 2002-2006. So that pretty much clears up your first paragraph.

You don't enjoy Master League because you dont start with a team of stars, then that mode isn't for you at all obviously. However you stated exactly what I have been saying, the gameplay is damn near perfect, that is what my argument has been about the whole time. I said if you want licenses then play FIFA, if you want gameplay, strategy and an amazing amount of animations, play WE.

I would also hope FIFA 07 is better than WE 6, I don't believe it is better than WE9 though. I really feel like going through and typing up paragraph after paragraph responding to your post, countering what you said with what WE9 features but will be a waste of time since I will simply be called close minded and thick headed and have any FIFA fan automatically agree with you.

You lose. I already talked about gameplay, strategy, etc. You just ignored them. Stay with what you know, just realize you're missing out on a better expierence.

And FYI, I like building actual teams from their default rosters and attempting to buy out real stars to put on my team as I earn money. I like starting with say, Shrewsbury, working my way up though the leagues until I reach the premiership. Like a real franchise mode should be like.

And sorry, i meant 9. I have 9, the one with John Terry on the cover.
