View Full Version : Favorite Tv Character Finals: Our Favorite Character
Who is absolutepunk's favorite TV show character??
some discussion topics:
Is your favorite TV show character also on your favorite show?
How much does the show influence the decision of your favorite character?
Why is he your favorite?
Seeing as they are all in comedy, is it all about humor, or does the character have to have a deeper side?
Have you watched the shows enough to grasp the personality of the each of the characters below? If not I suggest you should watch all of them. Keep in mind, it could take a while for a character or show to grow on you. A few episodes is not enough to grasp.
Here are the finalists.
Charlie Kelly-It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Dwight Schrute-The Office
Barney Stinson-How I Met your Mother
Gob Bluth-Arrested Development
George Costanza-Seinfeld
Homer Simpson-The Simpsons
Eric Cartman-South Park

All of those are great characters, but it comes down to Charlie. His ignorance, disgusting behavior, illiteracy and obsession with the waitress makes him a character that will become an instant classic.

A year or so ago I would have said Gob. But the answer simply is Charlie now. Such a hilarious character
I love Charlie, but Barney just has that extra bit of awesome.

Charlie Kelly-It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Dwight Schrute-The Office
Barney Stinson-How I Met your Mother
Gob Bluth-Arrested Development
This was like Sophie's choice. My final thoughts:
Dwight - love his character, but my favorite part of dwight is his interaction with Jim. Without this interaction, Dwight is less super awesome (though still super awesome).
Barney - his character is hilarious and there's nothing I want more than to try the scuba diver. I love him, but while I love HIMYM, it's my least favorite out of the 4 shows.
Gob - "Yeah, the guy wearing the $4,000 suit is holding the elevator for the guy who doesn't make that in four months. Come on." Awesome in every way, but doesn't make me laugh out loud quite as much as...
Charlie - this had to get my vote. You have to love kittens in mittens. He can't read, he eats cat food, and dammit he's the wild card. I don't think any of these characters stand alone in quite a ridiculous and hilarious way quite like Charlie does.
Charlie had to take my vote.
Dwight, Barney, Gob, or Homer. Goddamn this is hard.

12/10/09, 02:06 PM
Gob all the way
Barney got into a funk when dating Robin, that and the series has gone down the hole
I feel like Charlie isnt that great without Mac and Dennis
All the rest are way too predictable and not as funny as Gob

Those are all such good characters. I don't watch How I Met Your Mother and don't care much for Arrested Development (I've given it chances, and maybe I'll give it one more shot sometime).
That was really hard though, cause those are like the only sitcoms I watch. I chose George Costanza though.

George is so classic. He's a cheap asshole, neurotic, but somehow still completely loveable. I don't think anyone elses antics are as hillarious as his. Cartman and Charlie were my runner-ups.

how the fuck can you even say the word about a character on that list who isn't george costanza is beyond me.
anyways, if it isn't george or dwight, i quit.

i understand. and i can admit charlie is a great character. but i think the classic term is best applied to george, as his show ended a decade ago, and he is still relevant enough to make his way into this poll.

Well GOB isn't even my favorite character on AD, so he's out. Charlie I enjoyed in seasons 1-3, but then some of the other characters stepped up. So we're left with Barney, since I don't care for any of the other contenders (except George, but I was never a huge huge Seinfeld fan).

I think Charlie is probably the best stand-alone character. As much as I love old-school Simpsons, Homer is just dumb. The real humor happens around and in spite of him.

I went with GOB.
i've never seen It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia though. it wouldn't have been a problem until i saw the comments you all were leaving. so maybe i should check it out....i doubt he is as funny as Gob though.
GOB should be winning by a landslide
