Not necessarily your favorite or which artists you think are the best but what Artists/Albums do you find that have the most relatable lyrics to your feelings/lfe/situations/etc?

It's usually New Found Glory(Catalyst or Not Without a Fight) and Relient K(Mmhmm) for me.

I love Bon Iver to death, but how the fuck is he the most relatable artist?

his lyrics may be abstract, but I find that doesn't detract from his relatability. the feelings of isolation, longing, love, cold and hope I get from his lyrics mirror many of the feelings I go through in my own life. when it comes down to it, he's just a guy with a guitar alone in a cabin pouring his pent up emotions out in words, and because of that I feel more connected to him than I do many of the other artists I listen to.

i'll just post some lyrics that are my life

"i'm sick of the things i do when i'm nervous, like cleaning the oven, or checking my tires, or counting the number of tiles in the ceiling"
- motion city soundtrack; "everything is alright"
- i have OCD and this is basically every day of my life, especially the last part

"up until now i had sworn to myself that i'm content with loneliness, cause none of it was ever worth the risk"
- paramore; "the only exception"
- i refuse to open up to anyone because i'm afraid of the outcome. again, this is basically my life

"i lost religion when i stopped believing in bedtime stories"
- lovedrug; "broken home"
- basically growing up and questioning things like religion. i could relate to this song a lot.

idk. i could think of a lot more if i had more time.

For me, as a musician, The Dangeous Summer.

But otherwise I think the simplicity of Lights' lyrics is really universal. Which is even weirder since she's a girl and I still find myself able to relate more often than not.

Starting Line (especially Say It Like You Mean It) and Dangerous Summer have easily relatable lyrics in that they pretty much directly link to events that most teenagers experienced growing up.

Cursive's The Ugly Organ I find myself being able to relate to easily and a lot of what Jamie Lenman wrote for Reuben was about the mundanity of life so that's always a piece of piss to relate to as well

I haven't gotten a chance to yet, its on the list. I hate finding out that I band i'm interested in has four or five full lengths already - gets overwhelming.

Do you have a reccomendation for a starting point?

I'd say Say Anything or Bon Iver, maybe NFG.

EDIT: Of course, lyrically mewithoutYou are my favourite band, but more because the lyrics are beautiful, rather than because they are relatable.

Floating forgetfully along, with no need to be strong,
We keep our confessions long, but when we pray we keep it short.
I drank a thimble full of fire,
I'm not ever coming back...
Oh, my God.

"I do not exist," we faithfully insist,
While watching sink the heavy ship with everything we knew.
And if ever you come near, I'll hold up high a mirror.
Lord, I could never show you anything as beautiful as you!

well, that particular lyric is from 'the sun and the moon' which is on 'brother, sister'

BUT, my favorite of theirs, and my favorite album overall, is 'catch for us the foxes'

I will get flamed for this but here me out, for me: Jacoby Shaddix from Papa Roach. Yes his lyrics are definitely not the strongest when it comes to writing but a shitload of his lyrics I can relate to, a lot. Brand New would be second but honestly Papa Roach is first. His views of faith, alcoholism, and being his own punching bag I can relate, heavily, too. Thank you for understanding....I hope.
