Who do you think are the best bands to only put out one album?

Try to avoid bands that just started and clearly have more on the way.

I'm going to go with some relatively recent choices.

You mean the band that had four (technically five) studio albums?

TJ Wells

Most people don't count New World (the only reason they recorded it was to protect their band name), their debut was a singles album, but I guess technically if you count As Far as I Can See then you can be right.

Most people don't count New World (the only reason they recorded it was to protect their band name), their debut was a singles album, but I guess technically if you count As Far as I Can See then you can be right.

Begin Here is The Zombies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Zombies)' British debut LP released in 1965. The American version (titled The Zombies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Zombies_%28album%29)) repeated many of the tracks from it, but, as was common in those days, deleted some cuts and substituted some others.
The 1999 CD reissue on Big Beat expands the track lineup substantially with the addition of three songs from their 1965 UK EP The Zombies and, more interestingly, alternate takes of "Sticks and Stones" and "It's Alright With Me," as well as demos of "I Know She Will" and "I'll Keep Trying." The demos of these last two tunes are notable in that they don't have the overdubs on the versions available on other albums.

Of course, this is from Wikipedia. Regardless, it's a "singles album" extending over half an hour and referred to as an LP. Their debut is, in fact, an album.

I suspect you're referring to the self-titled release in America, which is the "technically five" I was alluding to earlier.

I don't care for the idea that motivation robs an album of its status as, well, an album. That's absurd. The Zombies recorded yet another LP. Their motives behind its creation does not play a role in whether it is or isn't a Zombies record. This also extends to As Far as I Can See...

It seems like EPs don't count here. In that case, Days Away gets my vote, with the Postal Service and Texas Is The Reason as a close second and third, respectively.

Some other good ones are American Football, Operation Ivy, Ghosts and Vodka, The Gloria Record, and The Jealous Sound. I like the Name Taken answer, but then remember that they did have that album that never got officially released... so it's kind of a yes, but no answer to me.

Apparently The Jealous Sound are still in the process of making a new album in some way or another, so hopefully they won't be a one release band. There has been no word since like July, but they are meant to be back together making a record. Can only hope.

Wrong. I may not have been old enough to appreciate Blink during their glory days but I definitely understand their impact. Please don't write me off because of my age.

I think that BCR is the best work that Tom's ever done. It's mature, but not laughably so (ahem, *AVA* ahem) - thoughtful lyrics, great music and a freaking cameo by Tim Armstrong. BCR's s/t was just as good if not better than Untitled IMHO.

Don't fear, you're not the only one who's anticipating it. I first found them in 2003, mind you, I didn't know about the new album and was too young to care, but as soon as I found out, I've been waiting.

It's always awesome to know that this band gets love. Although I'm not sure they apply for this thread (they have an EP and are working on a new album.)

Typically releases aren't mastered versions...Productivity usually isn't as great as a full-length, as smaller bands usually release EPs because they are cheaper and quicker to put out. Many EPs might be acoustic or split with another band or something. Distribution is either done online or very limited releases, and EPs are kind of like a band saying "Shit, we're new, so let's throw some of our best shit onto a disc to give them something"...or "Shit, here's some shit to tide you over since we're going to, or are taking too damn long to release our new album"... Or "Shit, here's some shit we had laying around"...or "shit, here's me doing my shit with an acoustic guitar"

Come to think of it, a lot of my favorite shit from bands were from their EPs

I've never understood people like you. You'll say 'I liked both the albums, but neither band is good'

That makes no sense. If you are even slightly drawn to something, you must admit that something about them was 'good' enough to draw your attention.

I dont like +44, I've probably heard 5 songs by them, but musically I know they are good enough to be mention amongst bands w/ only 1 release. Had bands been better, they probably wouldn't have had just one release. Duh.

Yeah, I like the guys in blink, so I have both +44 and BCR albums. They're catchy, but they are by no means what I call quality. I listen to a lot of bands and artists that shit all over them in terms of musicianship and talent. In my opinion.

I can't even get over how stupid you seem over the internet.

It's a matter of opinion.

Then you say, How about listening to bands that are good. Um, so I should listen to bands that you think are good, or that I think are good. Because you don't know which type of bands I like, though. So.... I dont even know how to respond to you.

Cool, you have a +44 album, that you bought (or stole) and you dislike. I don't have a +44 album, but I give the 4 or 5 songs I've heard from them some respect. I have seen much shittier bands. I get your opinion, but come on, everything you're saying is contradictiing itself.
