We are living in great times for music, right now. Finally, I feel like we are progressing.

Absolutely. Yeasayer are godly.

why wouldnt they?
because they're mediocre.
because they're mediocre.
I actually really dig the new one a lot.
But, The Mars Volta and Devendra Banhart are pretty good leaders.
Even Black Moth Super Rainbow and Black Mountain.

The Mars Volta > this genre.
The Mars Volta > this genre.
Who said 'this' was a genre? It's more like punk. It's an aesthetic and feeling.

mars volta would be a good starting place if they don't put out anymore albums like the last one.

mars volta would be a good band if John Theodore never left.

It appears The Mars Volta and Devendra Banhart are both done releasing good material. Especially Banhart. Black Moth Super Rainbow is a sick band. Never listened to Black Mountain, but I'll check them out at some point today.
I think Caribou and Yeasayer are pre dope.

What about Animal Collective, Lightning Bolt, Back Dice, etc.?

I'm not entirely sure how animal collective and lightning bolt are at all psych related.

ha Yeah I've got nothing bad to say about these ones. If this is psychedelia, count me in.

Really? I guess it's objectionable.

The only relation is "hipsters like them". That's all i can think of.

"In the Future" was my favorite release of 2008. Definitely there, I'd say.

agreed with you.
Amputechture was their last good album. Bedlam in Goliath blew. Thomas Pridgen is a godly drummer, but Theordore brought dynamics and an amazing pocket and groove to the table that Pridgen just can't.
Octahedron is my album of the year. I clearly don't agree with that.

Pridgen sounds a lot less ostentatious and more nuanced on Omar's solo albums.

Didn't like Octahedron at all. Thought Bedlam in Goliath was great, however.

Then I should check those out... that's why I loved Theodore's drumming... he was soo smooth, and so intricate

Listen to Xenophanes and Solar Gambling.
And, yes, Theodore was quite the drummer, particularly on Amputechture.

saw them on the tour bedlam was released. you're wrong. thomas's work on that album was contextual, jon's style wouldn't fit that well in it. when thomas was playing the old songs, he was doing just as well as jon did.

Context of the new songs they play, yes, Pridgen is a beast. Yet, when they play the older stuff, Theodore's style of playing seems much more natural. Pridgen just seems to go buckwild. It's not a matter of right or wrong, per se, I just prefer Theodore over Pridgen, even though they're both phenomenal.
