I signed up for this class for english next year. Anyone really know what it is about? From the name I'm guessing which just watch, analyze and critique films that are related or based of a certain piece of literature. So has anyone actually taken it before?

I've never taken anything like that, yet. But, it sure sounds like it would be a fun class!

i take a lit through film class. its pretty much what you said... we watch films and analyze them. but none of the movies we watched were based on pieces of literature. your class might be different though.
the movies we've watched so far are: schindler's list, caddyshack, butch cassidy, tombstone, bonnie and clyde and angels and demons.

I took a film and lit class where we compared written and visual forms of the same story, as well as films loosely based on books (e.g., Heart of Darkness/Apocalypse Now). For my final paper, I wrote an essay comparing Fight Club as a novel and film.
I just got done with an American Lit (Post Civil War) which we looked at the films Citizen Kane, The Searchers and Chinatown as actual literature. All three astounding films, I actually wrote my final on Asian racial tensions in the film Chinatown.

I bet the class the OP is referring to is a lot like this. It's a fascinating subject.

my advice would be to email the professor and find out what text(s) you are using, and see what those texts are about. I bet it's a great class.

Do they not have booklets or something to explain the classes? Seems kind of strange to take a class without knowing anything about it.

Well I was planning on taking Comedy and Satire but they didn't have that choice. So I chose Film as Lit. There was no real explanation on what the class is about though. But what people are saying is what I'm hoping the class will be like.

Flim as lit is a class I've always wanted to take, but never have. My ex took it, and from what he said they just analyzed and wrote papers on a lot of films, and sometimes they watched movies of specific actors (I think at one point they briefly studied John Cusack). They also partnered up and had to make a silent film.
