Just read about this, didn't see a thread. Sounds pretty awesome. Anyone else hear about this? Love his work.

From Wikipedia:
Looper, is Johnson's next film set in the near future, and involves a group of hitmen that are sent back in time to Kansas for their victims from the future. Only big organized crime groups are going to be using time travel because it is such a serious offense.

Chud.com:
For the next few weeks, a lot of people will be talking to Rian Johnson as his great film The Brothers Bloomhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rian_Johnson#cite_note-0) begins to roll out. (It opens limited this week, then wide on May 29.) He'll be getting a lot of questions about his next film, Looper, which he's previously described as a violent, character-oriented sci-fi filmhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif (http://chud.com/articles/articles/19420/1/RIAN-JOHNSON-LETS-SLIP-A-FEW-MORE-DETAILS-ABOUT-LOOPER/Page1.html#) involving time travel.

Johnson told /Film (http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/04/23/iffboston-a-few-more-details-about-looper-rian-johnsons-next-sci-fi-film/) during the IFFB that the story will take place about thirty years from now in a dystopian future. Now he's given a few more tiny tidbits to Vulture (http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2009/05/brothers_bloom_director_rian_j.html ):

"It’s not like a I, Robot–type thing. It’s a very character-based film, and it’s very violent and very dark. It’s set in the near future, and things are very bad in an industrial town in Kansas. The worst crime you can commit 30 years from now is messing with time travel, so the only people who will mess with it are big criminal groups. It’s a weird mixture; it has elements of the first Terminator and Witness, bizarrely enough."

There are bits in there that sounds tantalizing: going Dystopian but also rural, and having criminals be the time travelers. (Previously, he'd told /Film the criminals were 'a disruptive element'.)

With respect to the Terminatorhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif (http://chud.com/articles/articles/19420/1/RIAN-JOHNSON-LETS-SLIP-A-FEW-MORE-DETAILS-ABOUT-LOOPER/Page1.html#) reference, Johnson has said "I'm using time travel in a way almost identical to the first Terminator, which helps keep things simple," though there's also a more recent post from his forum (http://www.rcjohnso.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1977&start=75) ("I took somebody's advice and just went balls out with it") that, if not at least slightly facetious (or, more likely, a reference to the wild Balls Out script, as one email (http://chud.com/articles/articles/19420/1/RIAN-JOHNSON-LETS-SLIP-A-FEW-MORE-DETAILS-ABOUT-LOOPER/Page1.html#) suggested) could mean that simple is out the window. Regardless, this is something to be excited for.

Rian Johnson + sci-fi themes = PUMPED

Man is my favorite new director working right now, and also an enormous film nerd. Hopefully, he's me in ten years. :-)

EDIT: Thirteen years. Wow, he does not look 36.

Rian Johnson is the best. This can't come out sooner. Hopefully this will be handled better than Brothers Bloom. I'm still sore over the fact the DVD hasn't come out yet/

Exactly my thinking, this has to be great.

I agree, Brick and Brothers Bloom are two of my favorite now and this sounds very promising.

I'd love to be a director but I don't think I'd be good passed the idea stages, haha. Good luck, man.

I bought Brothers Bloom from my video store in town, in the case it'll be released with, two months ago. Couldn't believe my luck. $7.99.

Looper sounds like a spiritual successor to Primer (which I still haven't completely seen).

My understand is that the DVD/Blu-Ray is not available to buy until sometime in January.

Have they even begun shooting this?

I can't find any other info other than brief plot outlines.

Good logic. I tend to work on my novel late in the night.

Correct. I believe video stores got it early, and at mine is wasn't moving fast enough for them so they decided to get rid of a few. Lucky me, haha.

Bruce Willis plays a future version of JGL

Loopers are hit men whose victims are sent back in time from the future to be executed. The Loopers bump them off in the present, so there is no trace of a crime in the future. I'm told that Willis and Gordon-Levitt will play the same character, in those different time frames.

This sounds so amazingly promising. Can't wait, actually i would be keen if it was either Rian Johnson or JGL working on it alone, but both of them together?! awesome.

Ick, hate the design, but JGL looks JUST like Bruce in facial structure in this. I didn't see the resemblance at ALL in those photos that were released a few weeks ago, but it's uncanny in this.

Also, that picture on the bottom looks like a press photo from another film Willis did. This looks fake.

Anyways, teaser trailer is coming April 12th!

Still looking for the script as well.

Still excited for this, but JGL's make-up is a bit much. I would've been perfectly fine with him just looking the way he is -- now I'm worried his look might be distracting.

DickfaceChillah
04/09/12, 10:31 AM
From what I understand, we are getting a featurette every day up until the trailer premieres. I agree that 'teasers' for teasers are lame, but this seems a little more meaty than that. I like seeing Rian Johnson talk. Dude's on his third movie now, though, and he needs to get a new fucking pair of glasses.

Also, I agree on the make up. That shot of Joe in the cornfield is horrendous. His face looks plastic, almost like Gigolo Joe in A.I.

I didn't need to see a little kid give another kid a bj, then Smykowski from Office space starts blowing JGL. It was a little too "molesty" for my taste. Happiness is probably the furthest I'll go in terms of movies where molestation is involved.
