View Full Version : Albums To Listen Through Completely

So, I've really started becoming a fan of albums which I can listen to all the way through, and just feel the energy throughout. I listened to Emery's new one as well as Razia's Shadow today. Any suggestions of albums of similar feeling? Yes, I know those two are totally different, but I listened to them back to back and it just worked for me.

Honestly, I use to always listen to my cd's on shuffle. Then when you think about it it's like the artists put it in this order for a reason.
But if I'm in the mood for anything or can't I'll just put my entire iPod on shuffle.

Yeah that's cool, I understand that. I wasn't that clear in my post - I meant people who only ever listen to their music on shuffle. One of my flatmates is incapable of listening to an album all the way through. I think he must have some kind of music ADHD haha.

Hey man, I'm not having a go, don't worry! Just saying that, when people have full albums, I don't really understand why they would choose to always listen to them on shuffle. I understand that's not possible if you only have a few songs from each artist.

You should dig it, it's a concept album - similar to Razia's Shadow, but less cheesy and far better (in my opinion ((not that I dislike RS)). Casey actually lends guest vocals on the opening track for Razia's Shadow. The instrumentation is great and the story is fantastic, it's a really captivating listen.

The album is the second part of a six-act story.[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Act_II:_The_Meaning_of,_and_All_Thi ngs_Regarding_Ms._Leading#cite_note -ap.net-2) Act II begins with the death of the innominate main character's mother, Ms. Terri. Following her death, he travels to a nearby bordello in the hopes of learning more about his mother and the life she lived as a prostitute, as he himself was the product of her profession. He eventually finds love in a prostitute named Ms. Leading, but the relationship eventually falls apart due to his inability to cope with her chosen profession.
3 acts have been released, but i'd start with Act II or I. The third, whilst good, is easily the weakest of the acts so far.

Amen to that, and....

These too. ESPECIALLY Decomposer...I got that about two weeks ago and it has rocketed to my top 10 fav. albums list already I think. So good...Not a big fan of Blue Skies though...So Long Astoria is good...esp. the first half.

decomposer is hands down my favorite record of all time. it's just so gooood.

the ataris is the first band i actually listened to so I think they deserve points for getting me into music. haha.

Brilliant album, every song is great.

Awesome, let me know what you think after a couple listens.
I don't know. I can't get into it really. I always get stuck at the nine minute song. It just doesn't stand out to me. Sorry man.

Any other suggestions? I got The Everglow, and it sounds great.

Let me second a few already mentioned:

Saves the Day - Through Being Cool
Brand New - Deja Entendu
Brand New - Daisy (but only if you're high.. if that's not your thing I'd stay away from Daisy)
Rise Against - The Sufferer and the Witness

Also,
Both Chiodos albums.

I think all of these are available on Vinyl... which is the best way to listen to them all the way through.

Why would you have CDs that you can't listen to all the way through? Wouldn't that be filed under 'CDs you don't really like'?

So, you don't own a single album with 3 or 4 songs you really like but don't care for the others?

Eactly.

Perhaps, but this thread makes that seem like a rarity. People are listing like 5 albums that fit the category. My point is that all EXCEPT for maybe 5 of my records would fit, and that would be quite a lengthy and pointless list to type up.

lets go with a band I'm certain to get hated on for.

Weezers blue album = totally listenable from start to finish.

weezers green album = I like hash pipe, maybe?

In this example do you own the Green album? Because if I felt the same way I would clearly buy the Blue only.

yeah, got them both in the days when you had to buy them to know if you were gonna like them.

If it were me, I would sell the Green album. Thus, I have very few (if any) records I wouldn't listen to all the way through.

anyway, I don't really sell any of mine... going back to the weezer, I'm a weezer fan.. there's something to owning all of them even if there are songs I don't particularly like.

I'm surprised that people are mentioning Dear Hunter but have totally neglected TREOS.

EDIT: Though I'm in the "all albums" camp. I realize that not all albums have to be enjoyable from start to finish, but I would hope that the amount that are would trump the amount that aren't for everyone.

I got Acceptance's Phantoms and Brightwood's most recent album and EP. Love em both. Any similar styles?

Needing to bump, due to the fact I need some more stuff.

You guys should feel happy. I've gotten into Thrice, Manchester Orchestra, Say Anything lately. Motion City Soundtrack has also been on my top played list as well.

Both Fall Be Kind and Merriweather Post Pavilion by Animal Collective blend really well throughout the whole album, and are actually more enjoyable if you listen all the way through. Actually this could be said for pretty much all of Animal Collective's work.

Trainwreck - Boys Night Out

I first heard Composing back in 2005, and I decided to finally buy the album in 2007 not knowing it was a concept album, and I was completely blown away. The whole story is just beautiful and tragic simultaneously.
