this is a novel. sorry.
so after not having a ride, i finally found one with my friends. i didn't know they were going until like yesterday haha.
we walked around the park for a while and rode batman. that's the only ride we went on though. not only was the line very long, i'm terrified of rollercoasters.
we went to the line around 4.30pm. i decided to go to the merch booth and check out what they had. then i saw this other line and went over to ask if it was a different line. it was way shorter and lead to the back. turns out that that line was the real line and the other longer line was a line to doors that didn't open haha. so i call my friends over and then EVERYONE ran over to the other line. in the madness, we cut halfway up the short line. after about a ten minute wait, they let us in.
the venue was like an outdoor arena. a stadium, if you will. the stage was about 6 feet high. the barricade was up to my neck (but more on the barricade later).
we get to the middle of the crowd. i tell the girls i'm with (mind you, they are small) that they hafta be very careful. they were complaining about people touching them and i just thought "damn just get out of the crowd then". while we were waiting, i told people i got to ride on nitro with adam. haha people actually believed me
the subways came on. i took a lot of pictures of the bassist. she was too cute. she is probably my new crush haha. anyways, i wasn't too into them. they were good but it wasn't my sort of thing.
next was head automatica. i got to almost the front for them. one person behind the barricade. couldn't take too many pictures of them cuz i was way too busy dancing haha. these girls in front of me kept looking back at me when i was singing. they were probably like "how does he know the words? i've never heard of this band". some girl passed out in my arms. i helped her up and asked if she was fine then lifted her up out of the crowd. head automatica was great. i loved it. daryll's dancing was smooth. i heard someone describe it as "porn dancing" haha. at one point, he put the mic to his crotch and pretended to masturbate with it. the songs i remember were "at the speed of a yellow bullet", "graduation day", the razor", "beating hearts baby", "lying through your teeth", “i shot william h. macy”. they did more but i forget the names. i thought they did pretty well but “beating hearts” was a bit, well, bad. they ended with “i shot william h. macy” and had the crowd really pumped for angels and airwaves.
at this point of the show, while they were setting up angels and airwaves, i got up to the barricade. front and center. between sets, the staff was spraying us with a water hose. very refreshing but regretted it later. i also tried to not get my camera wet. i just bought it on tuesday and it’s really nice. i put it inside a ziploc back when they busted out the hose. the barricade was made of wood and the paint started bleeding onto my clothes. it sucked. my shirt and jeans were red at the end of the show. the barricade was also up to my neck almost. some kid got his face smashed into the top of it and chipped a tooth. i also saw an unconscious girl being carried by security under the stage and then behind it. this girl next to me started yelling and crying because it was her friend. people asked if she wanted to leave but she said no. what an awesome friend. she just stood there crying and screaming while her friend was passed out.
angels and airwaves came out and everyone went nuts. they played most of their cd and also blink-182’s “always” and boxcar racer’s “there is” acoustic. it was probably the most inspirational performance i’ve ever seen. tom was telling us some really positive things about never giving up and never letting anything let you down. it was really cool. i only knew one angels and airwaves song but after hearing them live, i might check out their entire cd now. their set was amazing. they had some guitar problems (especially during “there is”) but the crowd didn’t need no stinkin guitar. we sang accapella and didn’t miss a word. tom said they had an awesome light show but we couldn’t see it cuz it was still a bit sunny out.
after angels and airwaves, the crowd started chanting “TBS!”. after a short wait, no more than twenty minutes, the house music turned off and the lights went out. fred came out playing the first few notes of “what’s it feel like to be a ghost” and the crowd went nuts. the rest of the band came out and were all dressed in all black dress clothes and ties except mark who was wearing white. the set list (as best as i could remember it):
what’s it feel like to be a ghost?bonus mosh pt. 2?bike scene?makedamnsure?timberwolves at new jersey?set phasers to stun?you’re so last summer?the union?liar (it takes one to know one)?my blue heaven?twenty-twenty surgery?spin?cute without the ‘e’ (cut from the team)?this photograph is proof (i know you know)?encore:?divine intervention?a decade under the influence??that list is definitely not in order except the first and last three songs.
the whole band was goin all over the place (well except mark of course). adam danced, swung his mic, and sang perfectly. fred and eddie’s guitars complimented each other very nicely. matt had me dancing along to his bass lines. mark did a great job of keeping time for the rest of the band.
for the encore, adam came out with the acoustic and a harmonica around his neck and played “divine intervention”. he played the whistle and bells part on the harmonica. half way through the song, someone threw a water bottle on the stage and he stopped and told us a story about the time that he was sitting in a park and some assholes hit him with water balloons. he went back into the song and everyone was singing along. they ended with “a decade under the influence”. the crowd went the craziest for that song. there weren’t too many crowdsurfers, though. i was pleasantly surprised.
i know every show i go to, i say that it’s the best show ever. well this was possibly the absolute best show i’ve ever been to. and this time i mean it.
i can’t wait til their next tour.
