So this girl that I think I might be in love with, decides now is a good time to tell me she's in love with her ex boyfriend of 3 years. Being a musician, I know music of all things is the best remedy for a heart break. Any suggestions?
Preferably nothing relate-able in the heart-break area.

Though if that fails, listen to Fall Out Boy's Take This to Your Grave and hope she dies.

haha i still enjoy FOB as well.

but yes, i agree, writing your own music is definitely one of the better choices. i have also found that when i'm not feeling so delightful i always throw in New Found Glory and they always work - try listening to "Don't Let Her Pull You Down" off their 2009 album "Not Without A Fight"

also, Hit the Lights - Drop the Girl (and pretty much their whole Skip School, Start Fights album) is always a good listen.

and maybe A Day To Remember - Heartless - at least read the lyrics if you don't like the song.

hope that helps a little. music is always the answer.

I don't go in for ship-jumping bullshit once a band becomes successful. Drives me nuts. That record is perfect. And their newest one is great too.

i wouldn't play anything terribly sad. sad music about breaking up, although relate able is also depressing. also, does anyone else have the problem of playing certain music when your in a relationship and then when you break up no longer being able to enjoy it? i'm 25 and i still continually get upset that i can't enjoy certain bands because they remind me of those times.

honestly i like listening to good, easy listening tunes like XO or even ace enders. hope all works out man, never easy with these things :/

Yeah. In a similar vein to the posts about ruining music you associated with the relationship itself, if you rely too much on a particular artist when you break up, you run the risk of associating them with that shitty recovery time as well. I almost did that with Ryan Adams - who, incidentally, is a great break-up artist imo - but the quality of the music rescued it.

So, in conclusion, my personal recommendation if you actually feel like being sad is Ryan Adams' Heartbreaker, and in particular 'Come Pick Me Up' and 'Call Me On Your Way Back Home'. And 'To Be Young'.

And despite all the shit it got on this site, I actually found Taking Back Sunday's New Again pretty helpful too. Good luck!

Absolutely. I'm 22 and I do it as well. Though with a few bands I've had an opposite reaction. I got a casual interest in Taylor Swift and Taking Back Sunday as a result of my last ex. When we split less than amicably, I got into them full-force and more or less "claimed" them for myself. Now they were my bands instead of hers. Not sure if I lucked into it or not, but it gives me a bit of a win feeling.

And despite all the shit it got on this site, I actually found Taking Back Sunday's New Again pretty helpful too. Good luck!
I agree. Not only do I love that album (an unpopular opinion) but the fact that it's all about his breakup doesn't hurt, since he's always been a mean sonofabitch to his ex's via song. And if you were the one to fuck it up, there's no better song than "Where My Mouth Is" for wallowing in self-pity. Haha.

I do write my own, but it's not helpful because I just write about like.. her. still. and I'm trying to put her in the back of my mind, not keep thinking about things.
I know if it's in the back of my mind it's still there, but maybe won't be as prevalent in my life and will make it easier to get over.

I wasn't. Thanks to watching the Back to the Future movies since my early childhood, I easily developed into a Huey fan. I've had their greatest hits album in my collection for a while and it's definitely something that cheers me up if I'm down.
