I've thought about the idea of starting a fund for bands who get their shit stolen, but it happens every fucking day, we'd never be able to give a sufficient amount of money to the bands.
yea your right..that one band alone had 50k worth of stuff stolen

trailers are always a bad idea i think..they are more likely to get stolen off of the vans. that sucks though..because it really does happen alot. we had our cars broken into..but luckily the thefts didn't even touch the equipment left in the van..and there were thousands of dollars worth of amps and guitars in there.

No matter how you put it, it is stealing and even if the band sucks balls, they still don't deserve to have their shit stolen. I hope anyone who steals band shit gets their ass kicked 10 times over and than more and than get sued and go broke and than they can see how it is for a band's stuff to get stolen.:D

Why would you steal from a band?
There are some fuckin lowlifes out there.
its all the scum bags from camden.
sadly you're right, those scumbags make a killing every year when warped tour rolls through and plays at the waterfront, people get so fucking scared driving out of camden at night after the final bands get done at warped. just a fucking terrible atmosphere for fans and bands to be. i think they should look into moving or something.

There are ways to protect yourself from theft. I know that there is insurance that you can get for personal items by going through another insurance company other than your auto provider. I do it right now, and it really isnt that much when you think about it. As long as it has a serial number it can be insured. My band makes sure to take every step possible to ensure the safety of our van and equipment. We have full coverage on our van. And we are from NJ, the highest insurance prices in the country, and we still manage to pay it. It just means that you sell that t-shirt for $7 instead of $10 and you do what you have to do to be safe.
Have someone in the van at all times, rotate, get insurance for your gear, and keep some kind of protection in the van as well, and you'll make it home ok.

I can see this happening, especially because some of the shows are in the wrose parts of the city.

..i geuss so..unless you don't mind not having much room for yourself in a van.
I thought it was just a known fact that one or two people sleep in the van and alternate each night. I guess that's not the case

haha, yeah...who knows? I've never heard of the bands mentioned, but the bands I do hear about getting shit stolen from them never deserve it. Pretty bullshit, and just fucked up in general. With the gas prices going up, it's too hard to have enough money for anything these days if you're an up and coming band.

What's the worst is when you hear about and/or see bands trying to steal the gear of other bands they've played with that night. Pretty sad when you can't even trust your tourmates.
And I've heard about some bands that have people watch/sleep in their vans. It's pathetic that it has come to that, but I guess ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

yeah. i read an article about this before. keep someone on guard, and always park the trailor up against a wall, if possible. the harder it is to get into the van or trailor, the less likely it is that shit will get lifted. play it safe, insure whatever you can, and you don't have to worry. a lot of bands lose their gear, but even more go tours and tours without losing anything. i doubt it's pure luck.
