This is a ridiculous question to ask, but I'm tempted to try and answer, even though the list could change by the time I click "Post Quick Reply." Most of my absolute favorite songs are steeped in nostalgia, so if nothing else, it could be a good chance for reminiscing (which I'm a total sap for).

By "cool songs," you obviously mean that random Linkin Park song snuck in there, right? If this list had been a bit larger, some female pop totally would have snuck in there, lol. A large chunk of the songs are, in one way or another, praise songs, though, because that's simply what I'm into. I feel like The National and Linkin Park were my only choices that don't point to Christianity in one way or another, and they probably still do in some roundabout way in my head.

I'm curious as to what else you'd pick. Just give it a shot.

Lyrically, Mr. November really strikes a chord with me. Many songs on Boxer are arguably superior to it, but the themes on that album don't hit as close to home for me.

Fair enough. I could see people asking why I made some of my picks as well. It's all rather relative, dependent on when and how the song hit you in your own life situation(s).

Heck yeah I am. The bottom chunk of my list is filled with praise songs, too. That's just what I'm into, what means the most to me.

Never listened to Rez Band or The Blamed. Only Newsboys song I really care for is "Entertaining Angels," but I'm pumped for their next album so I can hear Michael Tait's voice again; it's been too long. Skillet is a fun band, but none of their songs have ever clicked for me.

24. Mae - Painless
I always thought that was easily the weakest song on that album.

I'll try and come up with one of these even though it'll be incredibly difficult and contain quite a bit of MCR.

Edit: Here's mine. I tried to make it as varied as possible so I had to delete some songs. It's pretty rough, I didn't give it too much thought so I probably forgot something.

Meh, I don't dislike "Mr. November," but I personally don't see what you see in it. I wouldn't rank it over any songs on Boxer.

It's probably the catchiest song they've recorded. It feels radio-ready, without sacrificing the somber, introspective, Cohen-esque sound that resonates through most of their tracks. It's the only National song I hum at random intervals throughout a day after listening to it.

There are some gems in this thread. And I am definitely going to make a playlist and post mine when I get home. I am going to try to not post ALL Bob Dylan songs, but as few as possible, to get some variety into mine. But really, if I was honest, my top 25 would probably mainly be him. :-d

And  to whoever put (fin*) on their list. That song is so beautiful.

25.) Todd Agnew - "Grace Like Rain"

A) Thrice is all up on your top 10, but none of those would make my top 10 Thrice songs.

A) Thrice is all up on your top 10, but none of those would make my top 10 Thrice songs.

B) Fake Empire is real nice, but I fell in love with Slow Show first. That whole album comes alive after a while though, so now it's hard to say. I guess my non point here is that Fake Empire is the most immediate (I have heard it at grocery stores), but I think I'd have other ones higher on my list that has not been made yet.

C) DC*B has more than 25 songs worth a top 25 list. Interesting choice. I will say, I prefer the DC*B 'Rescue is Coming' to the worship song 'Rescue', although that one is not a bad tune either.

D) mwY songs, see Thrice. Although perhaps one or two of those would make my top 10.

E) O Come, O Come Emmanuel is probably my favorite Christmas song. Although...Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silent is awesome too (and pretty brutal). What is the most brutal of all is the song that is a combination of the two on the Brutal Christmas CD. Best. Song. Ever.

F) I felt like commenting so I did.

A) Ha, well, I'm not you. ;-) I love the lyrics to all those songs because they hit me in just the right way at just the right time, applying directly to what I wanted/needed at the moment.

B) It was the first song I heard of theirs and is the first on the album (and sets the mood perfectly for the rest of Boxer), so it's become sort of my definitive The National song. "Slow Show" is also brilliant, though, as are "Apartment Story" and "Gospel." Those four are probably my favorites, though I tend to change my favorites with every few listens.

C) "Rescue" has been played many times at church camps, so I have a very strong emotional connection with the song. Crowder is definitely wonderful and has other songs that, with more thought, could have worked their way in. "You are My Joy" just tends to hit me a little harder musically and lyrically than his others.

D) See Thrice.

E) I can't say I've heard that yet. Guess I have to check it out now. Sounds rather, uh, brutal.

F) I felt like replying, so I did.

Whoa, I just did a Last.FM check, and you two's compatibility is EXTREMELY HIGH (100%). Seems like a match made in heaven.

A) Ha, well, I'm not you. ;-) I love the lyrics to all those songs because they hit me in just the right way at just the right time, applying directly to what I wanted/needed at the moment.

Okay but Thrice used to rock ;D

B) It was the first song I heard of theirs and is the first on the album (and sets the mood perfectly for the rest of Boxer), so it's become sort of my definitive The National song. "Slow Show" is also brilliant, though, as are "Apartment Story" and "Gospel." Those four are probably my favorites, though I tend to change my favorites with every few listens.

Yeah, it's one of those albums. A few tracks will probably never be my favorites but I can't decide between about a half of them.

C) "Rescue" has been played many times at church camps, so I have a very strong emotional connection with the song. Crowder is definitely wonderful and has other songs that, with more thought, could have worked their way in. "You are My Joy" just tends to hit me a little harder musically and lyrically than his others.

Yeah Rescue is definitely a good one, sang it plenty of times myself during College and what not. The thing about A Collision is that it sounds the best played all the way through, so it's pretty hard to single out a track or two. My pick was Rescue is Coming but yours is good too. Also I love Come Awake.

Waaaay too hard to narrow this down to 25...I tried only picking one song per band (except for Deftones) but I easily could have had 5-6 songs from a lot of these bands...but here it is in no particular order...

1. Ray Lynch - Celestial Soda Pop (This song is the absolute odd ball of my list but was a favorite of mine as a kid)
2. Fear Factory - Self Bias Resistor
3. Murder By Death - Those Who Left
4. Dredg - Symbol Song
5. Muse - Hysteria (honestly could have picked half of this list from this band alone)
6. Frou Frou - Psychobabble
7. Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye
8. Imogen Heap - Canvas
9. Deftones - Headup
10. Deftones - Digital Bath
11. Taproot - Mirror's Reflection
12. AFI - Dancing Through Sunday
13. Thursday - This Song Brought to You by a Falling Bomb (I like other Thursday songs on their respective albums better, but this song live gives me goosebumps)
14. Harvey Danger - Flagpole Sitta (Best One-hit wonder song ever...at least I don't think they had another "hit")
15. Head Automatica - Beating Heart Baby
16. Glassjaw - Cosmopolitan Bloodloss
17. Far-Less - Gentlemen (Go to Sleep)
18. Foo Fighters - Everlong
19. Lost Prophets - Start Something
20. The Roots - Break You Off
21. Russian Circles - Geneva
22. The Used - Buried Myself Alive
23. Genesis - Tonight Tonight Tonight
24. Skies Bleed Black - Bleed it in June (was a good local band a few years ago)
25. Finch - What it is to Burn

I'll probably think of something I forgot as soon as I post this and hate myself for it. Oh well.

I tried to compile a favorite songs list recently. I decided to go through my itunes and just narrow it to songs I could see maybe being in a top 50. The list ended up being almost 300 songs, so I gave that project up in a hurry.

Edit:
Forgot to mention I do know my top 3.

1. Goo Goo Dolls - Iris
2. Billy Joel - Summer, Highland Falls
3. Jim Croce - The Hard Way Every Time

Prince's "Little Red Corvette" and Bob Dylan's "Boots of Spanish Leather" would most likely round out my top 5.
