Anyone with a subscription to the Wall Street Journal, there is a really interesting article in in about the factor of luck in baseball in the weekend edition. I'm having a hard time finding it online since I don't have an online subscription. In any case, it's a great read.

if it has anything to do with clutch hitting, then i think that's crap.

i'm a fan of the moneyball approach, but that's the one thing i consider to be a bunch of crap (clutch hitting doesn't exist or it's just luck). some people can handle pressure better then others and it's because they can control their emotions while others have trouble doing so. there is still a psychological aspect to baseball, even if billy beane says different.

hm luck.....sounds like something ive said more than once on this board and on others.

as far as clutch goes, look up a statistic called leverage index.

I knew you would be interested. I wish I could get the article. Unfortunately I only have a print subscription and not an online subscription.
