help me figure out the chord(s) in this song

Listen to the song on that page (should be in first post under "News." Your task is to figure out the chord being played in the first 6 or so seconds. If you're really ambitious, figure out the chords in the chorus at 4:15.

He says the first chord is a D9 in that interview, but that doesn't sound right to me. I think it's some weird variant.

Its a d maj 9th played in the a-string formation....at around 7 or so seconds he drops the 7th and goes to the d9 he mentioned in the interview. Just play around with that chord cause i feel like its the basis for most of the song at the chorus he might go to some sort of minor 9th but i cant tell the guitars mixed really low throughout

You're right. He said in a Facebook post that the first chord is played

like that, and it's a D9 with a major 7. Now if I could only figure out the rest of the chords in the song.
