I am well aware there are a handful of threads devoted to Graduation songs, but they only go about 2 pages and I got maybe 3 songs out of all of them ("Graduation Day" by Head Automatica being the only one I'll likely put down as a real option)

But as of right now, my high school class is beginning to search for a graduation song because we plan these things ridiculously early for some reason. Since the beginning of the year, there's been a wave of guys pulling for "If It Means A Lot to You" by A Day to Remember. Seriously. It's a kind of annoying song about breaking up. And the reasoning behind it (other than "it rocks, brah!") is the "la la la" part at the end would be cool to sing along to, which I kind of understand but it still doesn't really fit as a graduation song. All I got right now, other than "Graduation Day" is "I Survived" by The Graduate (which, I think, would be perfect, but I need more just in case it's rejected)

I'm just asking for songs that:
a. Aren't "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life" or that Vitamin C song
b. Have a graduating/leaving kind of theme to them
c. Have a good sound to them that appeal to a lot of people (I'm trying to win over a wide variety of people, so probably no hipster bands and such)

And, if possible:
d. Would be appreciated by the guys going for ADTR (think Four Year Strong and slightly melodic hardcore/rock sound)

More than 2 people at your school have heard of A Day To Remember? I'm jealous.

The song that IMMEDIATELY comes to mind is Chaney Can't Quite Riff like Helmet's Page Hamilton, by Evergreen Terrace. It's one of their most melodically focused songs (not necessarily saying much) but the opening lines pretty much say it all:

"Through black and blue, through thick and thin, it takes much more to break the skin, looks like we've finally made it, this time we've finally made it, we've had our backs against the wall, and all you've said we've proven wrong, looks like we've finally made it, this time we've finally made it!"

Otherwise, maybe look into some Andrew WK?

I'm thinking Heroes Get Remembered, But Legends Never Die, just cause of the title

I figured they were pretty popular nationwide. A good chunk of my school knows of them or listens to them. At first, I couldn't stand how popular they were and just didn't like the music, then it grew on me a little, and now I'm kind of sick of it again. Their act just gets stale so fast. But yeah, that song's pretty good, doubt it'd get approval because it's kind of heavy. I'd love to try "Heroes Get Remembered" too, we made that our hockey team's theme song last year, so it'll get some approval already.

Why did I forget this album? Wow. Some of these songs would be awesome; definitely agree with trying "Paper Chase", but I think I'll include "One More Weekend" too.

My school's musical taste is comprised of Jay-Z, Lil Wayne and whatever's big on the local hip hop radio station. The "popular/jock" guys also get a kick out of really heavy deathcore for some reason, they all go to random shows and mosh or hardcore dance. It's pretty strange :P

Yeah, I actually asked one kid who's part of that whole group if I could have some ADTR and he gave me For Those Who Have Heart and Homesick. A good handful of them are really nice personally, but they just put the cocky, suffocating ego on a lot and brag about how they cut their lip in the pit at the ADTR show and do all this stupid shit outside of school. They kind of ruined how I view ADTR, but I got sick of their sound pretty fast anyway. The way I view it now, my heart won't be completely broken if they use "If It Means A Lot to You", especially the last half of it, but there are much better songs for a graduation out there. I'm very open to all types of music though; I grew up on NFG and Yellowcard and I currently got Passion Pit, The Thrills, and the new Thirty Seconds to Mars record on constantly.

And definitely noting "Soco..." and "Going Away to College" on my list. Forgot about both completely.

Well, it wasn't the song..I think the song 'For Good' from the 'Wicked' Soundtrack was the class song (but the choir picked that, that wasn't chosen by the class--but it's a good song..) anyways..I picked the class quote 'every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end' from 'Closing Time' by Semisonic.
