View Full Version : AFI Makes People Do Bad Things

AFI (http://www.absolutepunk.net/afi) write disturbing lyrics and should not be listened to. At least according to this article (http://www.pluggedinonline.com/thisweekonly/a0002767.cfm).

hahahahaha. That's what happens when you try to write on a subject which you are completely clueless about. Ever heard of figurative language?

I don't have anything to say about this article, but I feel the need to ask a related question: how fucking awesome is Decemberunderground?

This person is a professional dumbist. Something tells me that to be a writer, you should be familiar with the definition of 'metaphor'.

pluggedinonline.com is a pop culture site fun by Focus on the Family, an evangelical christian organization responsible for pushing things like abstinance-only programs in schools. It's the last place you should be looking for music reviews. And if you do, just remember that they have an agenda...

He failed to mention that AFI writes about suicide and murder, and Nickleback makes people kill themselves and others. Preferably the lead singer of nickleback (chad)

*crying stars*
06/27/06, 08:00 AM
Country music causes more deaths than AFI or any other bands.

The writer knows nothing about the band. Haha.

People turn TO AFI in times of hardships and depression. Do you know how many people claim "AFI has saved my life"? A fucking a lot.

A lot more than Green Day ever saved..unless you count that grenade incident ;)

that article was ridiculous. if the author maybe presented their argument with facts instead of bullshit, i could maybe then see their point. they obviously knew nothing about this band. i also would never classify AFI as pop?? or maybe that's just me.

Oh come on, now. You can't say that when I've heard the same exact thing said about Green Day (btw you missed the coma incident hah!).

Don't get me wrong, I fully believe most of what you said is true, and I'm certainly not attack you, I just don't subscribe to the bit about 'AFI saved more lives than Green Day.' There's no way we could know that.

Apart from the fact that I completely disagree with the ridiculousness of this article, this person can't write for shit either. Learn to use compound sentences, pal.

And oh yeah, it's called the catharsis theory of media use...

I never really saw anything special in AFI, after listening to all their albums, only 2 or 3 really stood out. Green day esque guitars on decemberundergound? i'd say that, but then again green day didnt really revolutionalise the guitar did they? (rhetorical)

All i can say is, this guy has a sweet job, writing articles about nothing in particular.

Sometimes Christians just need to shut the fuck up, seriously. I'm a Christian myself, but they're always thinking that popular culture is trying to change everyone and become some type of bad influence. I don't know, frankly if some idiot kid is going to dive that deep into the lyrics and then decide based on that they're going to kill themselves or something...well good riddance then...

Here is what I had to say:

Dear Adam-
Your writeup on A.F.I.'s newest album is so misguided and disgustingly Christian that it scares me how wrong you are on so many levels. Being a longtime A.F.I. fan I know that their music is, and always has been, pretty much metaphorical for the most part. Just like the bible, which I'm guessing you're quite familiar with, you can't and shouldn't take those writings literally but rather as metaphor's for other things in life. Don't plant the idea of A.F.I. being a bad band or spreading a bad message to people who are not familiar with them when you've clearly not digested what they're singing but rather merely judged them on their appearance. I'm going to go out on a limb and say you also voted for Bush because of his repetitive 'God Bless America' chants, and you now see how well his presidency has turned out. There's nothing Christian about being intolerant of other people's views or ideas. I look forward to your response.
