To cut a long story short, I received an email from a fake paypal scam. I obviously didn't know it was at the time and it said to follow a link and fill in your paypal account info. I did that and then realized the whole thing was fraud and that I handed over my information to them. A few paypal calls later a lady informed me that my account was locked and my bank account wasn't touched. She said she's sure it won't be. I'm just pretty scared because I've read different places that this happens everyday and people's accounts get wiped. I've had my bank account cleaned out twice in the past year as a result of an unrelated robbery. With this popping up again though she said on the phone I'm fine, I feel sick to my stomach. Has anyone had anything like this happen to them in the past? I just feel as though I cannot deal with this anxiety again.
That and I've been stuck in bed as a result of some surgery I had done. I had my nose worked on as well as my tonsils removed. I feel like a bag of dog shit today. Any advice?

Do you still have this email? If so, screen cap all the info to see how badly you missed that it was fake.

I do not use paypal often and it looks legitimate. The only reason I knew it was fake was because a buddy of mine linked me to a few different places in which there were a lot of reports of this same email. People received it, did the same thing, bank account was emptied. I'm just hoping I'm in the clear seeing as though I spoke with a lady at paypal and she said everything is safe. She locked the account, I guess.

Quite a few months ago someone got my paypal info and spent around $500 and I only had $200 something in my bank account. My mom canceled my debit card and got me a brand new number. It really pissed me off that someone did that and made me have an overdraft. I'm still a little skeptical when using paypal but nothing bad has happened since.I haven't seen any of the scam emails, though.

Something similar has happened to me, it wasnt a scam though. You need to tell your bank the situation, so that they'll have a heads up and be able to prevent any money from being taken illegitimately from your account. You usually cant sue when it comes to scams though. Just do the obvious and be super paranoid when it comes to that type of information from now on.
And what kind of nose work goes with tonsils?

Thank you for the help.
As for the nose stuff, it wasn't related. I had to have my tonsils removed and when they were checking me over, they found a growth in my right nostril. Nothing serious but they wanted to get at it regardless. They were afraid if it grew it could block off the passage.

I guess there is a "lock"on the account at this point. I can't let the bank know until morning, they are closed.

They attempted to reassure me that nothing will happen. They put a lock onto the account. I just feel as though the damage has been done.

These things always have shitty timing, at least you caught on before christmas or christmas eve or something like that.
Oh, I was just curious because I might have to get some work done going through my nose.
So you're saying in 1 year you've been scammed 3 times? What comes after "fool me twice shame on me?"
Anyway a lot of times you can get your money back i'm thinking they will help you out on this one.

Some jerk in Wisconsin got my debit card info and bought a GPS from overstock.com. He was able to keep the GPS. The police told me there is a warrant out for his arrest if he is pulled over, or something. Makes me feel really comfortable knowing people can basically get away with this stuff. I got the money back, but still.

a. remove all your funds from your current account into a new account that paypal doesn't have access to.
b. ask your bank to issue a stop on all online withdraws or just to monitor your account because you think you're at risk.
Hmm. Sounds like everything was taken care of...
I hope you have a quick recovery for your surgery ;)

When we went to disney world the guy behind the desk at the hotel stole my moms credit card information and bought insane amounts of computer parts and electronics and shit. It was sooooooooooooo annoying to take care of..it took almost like, years to fix her credit/take care of that situation totally.

When I sold my xbox on eBay a month ago some guy bought it, but then told me to email him with the info of the purchase. I do, but leave out the specifics (wrong item number and title) and he swiftly sends me a fake paypal email saying to ship the xbox to Nigeria for his cousin. He'll even throw in the extra $100 for shipping to Africa. He said that the funds wouldnt appear until the xbox was received. Uh huhhhh. So I reported him to the ICCC.
