View Full Version : The Biggest Mistake of This Year's NBA Draft

Based on NBAdraft.net predictions, would be the Hawks picking Shelden Williams over any of these players:
6. Brandon Roy
7. Marcus Williams
8. Rodney Carney
9. Randy Foye
10. Lamarcus Aldridge
http://www.nbadraft.net/
To take a man who can't run the floor well, is a good defender, but might struggle offensively, over 2 potential 20+ ppg All-Star guards (Roy, Foye), an amazing passer who could develop into a poor man's Nash/Kid type distributor (Williams), and a 4 man who can run the floor incredibly well, rebound, and hit an 18 footer blind-folded (Aldridge) is potentially one of the worst draft mistakes since them passing on Chris Paul last year
The close second for biggest mistake is Daniel Gibson staying in the draft (he's now a mid-second rounder) instead of going back to lead what could have been the second best team in the Big 12 and top 10 pre-season pick

i agree.
i just dont understand where all this shelden williams love came from. like a week and a half ago he wasnt even a lottery pick, now hes top 5? cmon
brandon roy and randy foye will be the 2 best players out of this draft. and T Thomas too, if he ever reaches his potential. mark it down

it would be very "hawk-esque", IE picking williams over paul last year.

yeah...it came out of nowhere.
But, based on that draft, JJ Reddick to Phoenix...as a 6th man who can shoot while Nash feeds him open passes (they don't play defense, so that part doesn;t matter), that could be very, very nasty

phoenix already has jj redick, its just his name is eddie house. they are basically the same player

My two Best players in this draft are Brandon Roy and Lamarcus Aldridge...as in, they'll be the best in the next 2 years. I think Foye is 3rd there. The potentially best players are Gay and Thomas, as in, 5 years from now, they might be franchise players who are perenial all-stars. Marcus Williams is 3rd there, because if he controls his TO's, he is a nasty passer. The x-factor is of course Morrison, he could fit in either category.
Shelden Williams is one of those guys who makes like 2 all-star games, an NBA 3rd team, and taht's about it in his career. A great pick for someone in the 15-20 range...not at 5

except...from Yahoo Sports:
Update: Indications are that House will decline his player option for the 2006-07 season and become a free agent, the East Valley Tribune reports.
Recommendation: House will pass on $932,000 and seek unrestricted free agency. The Heat are among the teams that will compete for his services.

the Heat are going to be dismantled faster than the Marlins.

Quincy Douby would be an unbelievably perfect fit on the Suns.

he is so overrated IMO. he will not do well in the NBA at all
Quite a year for Brandon Roy to go from being completely overshadowed by Nate Robinson to apparently having a more promising NBA career (according to NBA scouts). That being said, I'm thinking him or Rudy Gay are the most enticing picks in the top 10 this year. Tyrus Thomas concerns me a little bit and overall its just a weak crop. If I'm a hawks fan like the rest of you above me, I'm hoping for another crummy season and a lottery winning pick to select Mr. Oden. My team, the Surs don't even have a pick til like 56th overall or something lame like that.

I think the Hawks will take Aldridge if he's there.

I don't agree with the projections that Roy will be the best player, or even the 2nd best, from this draft. Yeah, he'll adjust better than most ...but the ceiling is only so high. He isnt the greatest athlete and he's nothing special on the defensive end. He's worthy of a pick in the 5-7 range, but I think the bandwagon is getting a little bit bigger then maybe it should be.
I still think Bargnani is the safest bet to be the best player out of this draft. I'd put Foye right behind him and if Rudy Gay gets it together, he could be a star for a long time.

Ahhhhhhhhh....
He led the best conference in the nation in scoring while being double and tripled teamed every night, yet most college basketball fans outside of the Big East couldn't tell you what team he played on last year.
He's not going to be a superstar, but he will be a contributor. He's easily one of the best pure scorers in the draft.

If Jay Bilas mentions Roy or Foye again, I will jump through the tV and beat up his redneck ass.

look, i know you gotta defend your guy and all, all im saying is i just dont like his game. i dont think it will translate well into the nba. guys that are just pure scorers dont ever have that great of careers
i know how good he WAS in college (i was at the BET game against Nova where he scored like 60% of rutgers' points or whateveR)

Homeboy has 25 foot range, is an unbelievable slasher, has a good handle and can distribute. He just can't play a goddamn lick of defense.
This all said, he's now going to get picked at #45 and I'm going to spend tommorow night moping in my closet. At least he got a green room invite.:D

jay bilas said that toronto should take randy foye #1 overall :)
Jay Bilas should shut up. Not that I'm a big Raptor backer or whatever but I'm a tad bit skeptical that Randy Foye will turn out to be anything more than a marginal role player.

Its good to be passionate. I'm still wishing Alexander Johnson had come back to my Seminoles but hey, Foye WILL be better than him. Where do you think Lowry is gonna go?

well, i had heard around 20, but now some people have him in the lottery, which i dont really agree with. im REALLY hoping the knicks maybe trade nate robinson and their pick to move up and grab him, but they arent that smart
lowry is NOT nba ready, but a few years down the road it hink he will be a beast
Lowry's good and I think he's got a good future but I think he got some bad advice. Definitely should have stayed but I think he'll be drafted in the first round. His talent is enticing but his height will scare some teams.

oh he def made a bad choice IMO. he is not NBA ready. wont be for a good 2-3 years. i just hope he doesnt get suck in the D-league
if he came back this year, Nova might be the #1 ranked team in the country

i'll say it right now 3 years from now Patrick O'Bryant will be an all star at least all defensive team
i'll say it right now 3 years from now Patrick O'Bryant will be an all star at least all defensive team
O'Bryant kind of made a name for himself in the tournament and probably should have gone back for at least one more year but he is talented for sure. He may be the definition of raw though. 7 footers with his potential don't come along all that often though.
