Off the top of my head it's gotta be the best wide release film of the past three years.

I'm not too upset because he wasn't as good as Renner, but you're right, he absolutely should have been nominated.

Because the best actor category is ridiculously crowded this year.

I can't believe that the Hurt Locker didn't get a wide release in theaters. Especially after all the praise it's getting. It was not shown in any theaters here until about a month ago. It is an awesome movie.

Haven't seen Up in the Air, though I wouldn't doubt it, but he's a likable "movie star" figure who hasn't won lead yet, gets nominated often, and who is being lauded for giving the performance of his career. Regardless of whether or not he deserves it the most, he's an absolutel lock for a nomination and a serious contender for a win. Damon isn't even in the conversation for lead anymore, though.

Did I miss something about Where the Wild Things Are when I watched it? I'm so surprised that it's popping up on so many lists.

And I didn't realize that Michael Giacchino wrote the score for Up. I love his scores.

I've really been slacking in the foreign language category this year, I need to catch up I haven't seen any of them. But being honest the only two from that category. that I care seeing is Broken Embraces and The White Ribbon.

The only one that would even make my top 5 foreign films of the year is The White Ribbon.

Did you read the post you originally quoted of me? I said, and I quote:

I don't know or care if Damon is getting a best actor nomination, but the fact that his name has came out of a lot more mouths - for two films no less - and Copley's hasn't, leads me to believe he has a much better fucking shot of being nominated come Oscar's. Hell, the thread you are posting in has Damon nominated for a 'Best Actor,' and Copley just as an up-and-comer. Now, if the field is crowded or not has no bearing on whether he should be on the short list for those men nominated in said category.

Sharlto Copley has come out of a lot of mouths in a "I wish he was nominated" kind of way, at least in what I've read. I would actually argue that I've read that as many times as I've read about Damon for lead actor. The awards here have little significance anyway since there are 2 men who don't have a shot in hell at lead actor for Oscar, and another that has only become a relative lock in the past few weeks. I'm sure Copley will show up on a handful of ballots when the Oscar votes go in, but the fact is that neither the movie nor his performance is getting pushed for awards at all, whereas the "locks" have big Oscar campaigns going.

Clooney, Bridges, Freeman, Firth and Renner are virtually guaranteed. It's not exactly fair, but that's how it is. In a less crowded year, Copley would get more talk, but since so many see the thing as settled, they're focusing their energies talking about other categories. Hell, even Viggo, who seemed like a safe bet a few months back, isn't getting talk anymore. If it's all locked up, why do you expect people to be talking about anyone else?

Hell, D9 probably has a better shot at a best picture nod than at and actor one. I wouldn't bet on either though.
