You don't think going straight from radio music to MWY might be a little whiplash-inducing?

Maybe, but it has to happen at some point. The sooner someone listens to them the better imo.

Yeah no prob. Most of the bands I gave you are pretty different from each other so if you don't like Blindside, you may like the others.

I think with some bands that are a little more difficult, you might need a little bit of context before you can necessarily get into them. And if you listen before you have that context, you're likely to write them off. Which would be a shame.

Also some more accesible bands to check out: Jack's Mannequin, Jimmy Eat World, The Dangerous Summer

mewithoutYou was one of the first bands that I listened to outside of the mainstream so it wasn't that big of a problem for me at all. They were so different than anything else I listened to and that was attractive at the time. This guy already listens to Brand New so maybe mwY won't be too hard for him.

From a quick perusal of the bands you listed as your favorites, we seem to enjoy a lot of the same music. I say we agree to disagree on Blindside.

Oh man. That's my favorite record he ever did. But I'm a fan of big production. Interestingly, Far is my least favorite era of his, but Jonah has never made bad music. Man's a genius.
Though, Far's cover of "Pony" is fucking magical.

Far is probably my favorite band of all time. I didn't think Gratitude wrote a song that really caught my attention. I loved New End Original (which is an anogram of onelinedrawing) as well as his solo work.
Ironically...I didn't care much for the Pony cover.

Have to agree with that although it's quite pointless for anyone to get into them now. There's no chance of seeing them live anyway

Yeah, but that in no way changes the quality of their music at all. Come Now Sleep had a huge impact on my life.

those are awful suggestions for a person just getting off of mainstream music. not one of those is an accessible band.
