I wont be able to watch the whole game, but this deserves its own thread. Great pitching match-up and it'll be interesting to see the crowd reaction. I'll never forget his 6 innings of pure genius in Cleveland.
anyway, have fun with this thread. I hope he pitches a good game, but I also hope Beckett is one better.

if he doesn't get a 10 minute standing ovation, i'm going to be pissed. i am going to try very hard to be inside Fenway for this game and I swear if anyone around me boo's him, I will spit in their face.
Judging by tonights reception, however, they probably will not boo him. which is good. The Mets are not the Yankees.

Pedro got a nice standing ovation tonight by just sitting in the dugout. I'm sure he'll get a huge one tomorrow night.
Pedro vs. Beckett should be great..
How about Glavine vs. Schilling. I think that matchup is gonna be even better.

even if i wanted to pretend you were right and that the sox should be written off tonight because "pedro gets up for big games", you'd still be an ass because the guy going for the sox pitched a complete game on the road in yankee stadium to win the world series for the florida marlins. if thats not "getting up for a huge game", i dont know what the fuck is.

not a big game for the entire season, but I would imagine coming back to the place where you created a lot of memories and really cemented your legacy in the game of baseball is enough to get up for.
There is enough hype around this in the Boston and NY media, as well as national, that it has turned into a big game.

Yeah, in terms of hype it's a "big game", but all the interleague stuff is so frivolous that it really doesn't have that much actual importance to the teams. I'm sure it matters a lot to him, but you never know when Pedro is going to decide to show up to play.

You sox fans are all the same, you think your deserved a championship every year and can't stop complaining because the yankess have and will always have more respect and media coverage from the rest of the league. Get over it. I'm not even a yankess fan, but you sox fans make me sick. get over yourself. your just as bad as yankees fan.
Beckett was also shelled at Yankee Stadium a few weeks ago pal. Same stadium, shittier yankees team. Congrats. Pedro is just flat out better and more dominate than Beckett, face it. The numbers don't lie. So stop embarassing yourself.
Yes, this isn't a meaningful game at all, I agree. Its regualr season, interleague play. No big deal. But Pedro returning to Fenway for the first time since the World Series? You don't think his teamates are gonna want to kick some ass for him? Every player is going to be fired up like hell. So its a big game.

I dont see where your first paragraph came from. Besides, wouldn't any fan want a championship every year? I thought that was kinda the point.....
Beckett also pitched a gem in Ny, against a very tough yankee line-up on may 9th. Whats your point? Those games are not on the same level as a world series game so its really not relevant. If he constantly got shelled when pitching against the yankees, you may have a point. He has not and thus, you have no point.
No doubt Pedro is better than Beckett, but Beckett also has an ERA under 3 at fenway. In Beckett's 3 starts vs. NL teams this year he has allowed 7 ER's and 17K's. Dont give this game away just yet.

I got carried away with my first paragraph, sorry. I have a friend who is a Red Sox fan and he just annoys the shit out of me, mostly complaining about coverage and respect in regards to the Yankees. So thats where that came from.
My point is, every game the sox play againt the Yanks is a big game. Not a world series game, of course. He did pitch great in the World Series, but on the Marlins and he was a lot younger than. A young pitcher pitching against an enitrely different league will do well right away, based on the face that the hitters have never seen him before and don't his stuff. A scouting report will only go so far. He has had some trouble in big games against the Yanks, and he did as well with the Marlins after the world series. But my point is he can't hold a candle to Pedor Martinez in terms of big game consistency. Come on dude, lets be real here. Who are you going to take in an emotionally charged game liek tonight, Pedro or Beckett? Just honestly answer that.

No one is going to say they would take Beckett over Pedro in a big game. However, at Becketts age and his career so far, its not going to be an automatic win for pedro. Bekcett is one of the best young pitchers in the game and in a long run, will be a top tier pitchers in the league. And before we start counting amounts of "big games" thrown by each pitcher, Pedro had much more opportunity with the Red Sox and dont forget he had some trouble with the yankees in 04.

way to totally go off topic in about every possible way one possibly could.
lets get back to your initial point ..you said the game was over before it started because pedro is on the mound and he's a big game pitcher. i pointed out to you that josh beckett has done it himself, on an even bigger stage than pedro ever did it (although i love pedro for all he's ever done with the sox ..what beckett did against the yankees was one thing pedro didnt do).
moral of the story: the game isnt over before it started because pedro is a "big-game pitcher". beckett has been there and done that, too. as for the rest of the bullshit you spewed that was completely off topic, i'll avoid responding to because it would take too much time and energy to respond to everything you said.

Of course Beckett would do great against at NL team that had only seen hime once before, compared to a Pedro pitching agaisnt the Yanks for the 900th time. You put Pedro Martinez against a Yanks team that has never, ever seen him before (like Becckett in that game your mentioning) and I dare you to say he wouldn't do just as good if not better. Wasnt it the Yankees third time facing him in the series? If you face the same pitcher 3 times in a matter of 7 games, you have a pretty good idea of what they throw.

Is Ron Darling talking about his own career yet? I don't think he'll have enough time in an inning, but he constantly mentions all the teams he played on.

Pedro is feeling the pressure. He's pitching so bad.
And how could you guys expect us to beat you easily? The AL is always superior to NL.

im glad the sox won (EDIT: I shouldn't say won), but what a dud.
from what ive seen of Beckett, he is filthy. Just stop with the homeruns
Glavine should receive a nice applause as well. I was thinking today (while I was at work) that if I ever wanted to see the red sox get no hit, I would want it to be done by either Pedro and Glavine......which is weird because they're both pitching in this series.

I hope Glavine gets the win. I can't believe we're the best in the NL and we can't even win one from the Red Sox.

This fucking DH is ridiculous. Why don't they just get rid of it. AL is so much stronger than the NL.

Because with the DH in the line-up you actually have a real line-up.

or why doesnt the NL add it so that they dont basically have 2 wasted spots in their line-ups?

1. The NL would never add it, Bud Selig is too stupid to make an important decision like that.
2. I don't get why the DH was even added in the first place to just one league. Why didn't the NL get it too?

the DH is stupid, it really takes away from the small ball aspect of the game

see, I dont believe in small ball at all. not to say what you said was wrong, but I dont miss it. A team that plays small ball all year long vs a team thats plays a moneyball approach is going to be second 9 times out of 10.

most DH's are not hitting 40 homeruns and Bonds is a house hold name regardless of his homerun total.
actually, not regardless at all. the point was, its not because of his homeruns, its what he may or may have not done to achieve a number of them.

Moments after the final out last night, Red Sox GM Theo Epstein sailed through the interview room, where manager Terry Francona gives his postgame news conferences. He was whistling a happy tune, stopping only to utter five words before resuming the song: "Computer geeks one, Pedro nothing."
kinda funny.

kinda funny.
apparently pedro said something along the lines of "hey computer geeks, this is my world series title ..not yours" to henry/lucchino/werner/epstein (i guess i could have just said front office, haha) when they boarded the plane after winning it all.
i didnt believe it when i read it in the herald today because their writers are often full of shit, but if Theo is quoted as saying that, it could have happened.
either way, this isnt high school ..its a major league team, so i don't care. Pedro was the heart and soul of the Sox for a long time. The Sox made a mistake by not re-signing him, whether or not we still survived without him.

probably not, but the article in the paper was pretty much slamming pedro and that was used as part of the onslaught, so it left a bad taste in my mouth.
