I recently put together a brief write-up and a best of list from 2003, and I was hoping to find people to give me some feedback, perhaps point out some albums I may have missed, or whatever.

what are your thoughts on Rise Against's "revolutions per minute"? because i'm pretty sure that record came out in 2003, and from what I remember, granted I was 16 or 17 at the time, it was a real kickass record.
"Get Rich or Die Tryin" came out in 03 too. I don't know anybody who didn't spin that disc when it came out.

I am not ashamed to admit that my list would've consisted of Deja Entendu, ...And Don't Forget to Breathe, Beneath the Medicine Tree, and The Room's Too Cold. It just shows how much music has changed and how we've aged (and so has our tastes.)

I was sad to not see this on the list (while scrolling down, I was like... "Wait for it, wait for it" and it didn't happen). However, there were plenty of good albums featured in there. Being 22 myself, I tend to stick to music I liked around that time. It's been several years and it's still hard for me to get why some of the music out there is popular at all.

The Artist in the Ambulance is definitely my personal favorite album from that year, though I didn't get into it until about four years later; I think I was still rocking out the P.O.D. and Pillar that year. (Who am I kidding? I still like rocking out to Satellite every now and again.)

I just got into them late last year from a thread on this board. I own The Beyond, the self-titled and Salvation. The Beyond is my favorite but none of them vary in terms of "accessibility." You just dive in, listen to it a billion times, and eventually it either sinks in or doesn't. It did for me.

You adhere to a set of standards and tastes
That appear to be determined by an unseen panel of hipster judges
Giving a thumbs up or thumbs down to incoming and outgoing trends and styles of music and art
Go analog baby, you’re so post-modern
You’re diving face forward into a antiquated path

When I first tried to make the list I was going to base it off of where I would have ranked them back in 2003, but then I realized I probably would have had to leave off albums like M. Ward and Death Cab. I have noticed a few others that I would have liked to include in the list. 50 Cent not being one of them. I liked it then, but it hasn't really held up over time for me, especially since I'm now aware of so much more hip-hop/rap albums than I was back then.

Appleseed Cast, Murder By Death and Ted Leo definitely should have been in there. Some of the other ones people have said, like Blink, Saves the Day and Granddaddy were on my larger list but didn't make the cut at 50. Was Rise Against really 2003? I hated them back then, I just started getting into them this year though. I can't even remember why I didn't like them anymore.

when i first got into music i was a pop punk fan of bands like nfg, blink, old starting line, less than jake, brand new's first album, green day, sum 41. but now i guess it's not cool to like four year strong, a day to remember, set your goals, or the wonder years since they aren't as deep as daisy. i don't like starting line or brand new's later efforts as my favorite genre has always been any variations of punk music. and im not a huge fan of ace enders or anthony green either but that is what most of the users in the community are the biggest fans of now in 2009
