One of the best scripts I've ever read. Still, it doesn't exactly read like anything that would be even remotely visually exciting. Then again, my favorite Fincher flick is Zodiac, one of the least visually exciting films I've ever seen.

Zodiac is my favorite but I don't think it's not visually exciting. It's not technically flashy like Fight Club or Panic Room, but it is David Fincher movie. It still feels and looks like one of his. I think it's actually next to Benjamin Button has his best looking picture.

With this, I wonder how it will look as well but I bet it's beautiufl/.

The purpose of promotion/posters/trailers/marketing is to get people that WOULDN'T have an interest in seeing the film see the film. You think they made a poster pandering to Fincher's fans? Didn't know much about this, but suddenly I'm really intrigued. Not the hugest Jesse Eisenberg fan, though, having only seen Adventureland. I don't want to derail this into a Michael Cera thread, but if we're talking type-casting semi awkward, semi normal skinny white guys, Eisenberg just doesn't pull it off all that convincingly in my opinion. He comes across awkward in the wrong way, if that makes any sense. In any case, the 3 hour runtime is a bit scary, but I have a feeling this is going to be great. Love the poster too.

Can't they just be on the same level? People hate Cera because he's played the same character-type in about 6/7 movies, while Eisenberg hasn't been in enough to, I guess, really merit the amount of hate that MC gets. They're both decent actors, but nothing of huge talent yet. The Squid and The Whale was really good, as was Eisenberg, but I don't think he added any more depth than I think Cera could do.

This guy from In Contention can put my thoughts much better than I can, so I'm gonna go ahead and steal them:

"it’s enough that this movie is about Facebook and will be associated with Facebook. It cheapens the poster slightly that whoever made this poster decided to include several pieces of Facebook ‘iconography’. It almost looks like some sort of cross promotion. The reference could have been more oblique"

Without the bar someone that randomly walks past the poster that isn't aware this movie was being made has no clue what movie the poster is advertising for. I think it was mentioned before, but advertisements are aimed towards people that aren't already in the know and set on seeing the movie.

Of course that'll be the general public that thinks Facebook was made by some big company and was instantly a success when it was made. The same type of people who join Facebook groups of, "SEE WHAT GOOGLE LOOKED LIKE IN 2002"

I can't really say about the factual stuff. The book was written by the same guy that the did the book that was adapted for 21, so if it goes as loosely as that then I'd take it with a grain of salt. That said, the author's main consultant for the book was Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. Zuckerberg had nothing to do with it, so it's kind of a one-sided story. Also, knowing Sorkin's love of amping up the drama, I'm sure it wil stray from being completely accurate.

There have been character actors as long as there has been film. Why is everyone so fucking hung up on stuff like that the past couple of years? Some of biggest stars in Hollywood play the same role year after year and get a free pass (I'm looking at you, Will Ferrell). That argument for whether an actor has talent or not is so played out.

I don't have a problem with it, as long as they're good at what they're doing. For example, Michael Cera and the character he always plays fits in Arrested Development, because the type of humor meshes with it. But in almost everything else he's in, it's just annoying.

It's just a matter if that character actor fits in the film overall. Sometimes it's great, sometimes it's not.

you do know it's not 2 hours of someone messing around on Facebook right?

i'm just sick of hearing "it's about facebook"
Exactly. People are really missing the point here.

I am really interested in seeing this. How accurate is the story? Is it heavily embellished?
Yes.

But that doesn't mean the movie won't be good. Sorkin is one hell of a writer.

I'm sure it will be. I really like Jesse Eisenberg as well. Just wanted to know where I stand in terms of whether it is a true or not. Will definitely see this when it comes out.

The only thing I'm really annoyed with is how they portray Sean Parker (played by Justin Timberlake) and they play up the lawsuit from the Brothers as having more credibility than anyone that's looked at the legal documents would see.

I'm not familiar with the story if I am honest. Since I'm speaking to someone who seems in the know, could you recommend any books on it? I'll have a quick google now but no harm in asking ;-)

Yes I know, I'm not stupid, I just don't see how the creation of facebook could be as awesome and dramatic as the trailer (and I'm assuming the movie) are trying to make it seem.

If it was a movie about some retards playing Farmville, I wouldn't have the slightest interest.
