The August issue (#217) of Alternative Press (http://www.altpress.com) is the annual two cover Warped Tour preview. One cover will feature the frontmen from Anti-Flag, Against Me!, AFI, and Rise Against and the other cover features the frontmen from Armor For Sleep, The Academy Is..., Motion City Soundtrack, and From First To Last. Geoff was ruled out because we put him on the '04 Warped cover, and we decided to try and never repeat the same bands on Warped covers. That's also why there's no one from the Bouncing Souls, the Casualties or Underoath are on this year's covers; the former two were on in '04, and the latter was on in '05.

I wrote that piece, and I didn't view it as him dissing on the band; it's hard to portray someone's tone perfectly in a Q&A piece like this was. But he definitely wasn't hating on the band in our interview or anything; we were just discussing their meteoric rise to fame.

I used to love AP but you guys have put out some of the worst the covers in the past year that i lost interest in the magazine.

It's so you guys sell more copies, right? Because no one is going to buy a magazine with The Fall Of Troy on the cover, but everyone will buy one with Fall out boy on it?

I just want to know why you guys keep going downhill.

Most of the articles are awesome, and the reviews are DEAD ON. And you guys still rock at showing new music, but I'm afraid you're going to turn in to what AP used to be and only put huge popular bands on the covers.

C'mon, take a risk.

And put FEAR BEFORE on the cover this september. Yes?

Seriously, the ugliest band in the world. I love Cursive to death -- I've driven hours upon hours, all over the midwest, to see them live many times -- but I would never pick up a magazine with their faces on the cover. Dudes are just haggard. Their drummer is starting to look like Uncle Fester now.

(For the record, I'm also ugly; just sayin'.)

What it comes down to is, we've been blessed with a very supportive readership (many of which who have chosen to subscribe), and when thinking about bands to put on the cover, we have to take into consideration that these are the people who actively decide to plunk down their money for a copy of AP each month. Therefore, we owe it to them to put a band on the cover that will please the majority of them.

I love the Fall Of Troy -- I think Doppelganger was one of the best albums of 2005 that I somehow missed hearing until 2006, and I'm still kicking myself for my lost time with it -- but the amount of readers who would appreciate the Fall Of Troy being on the cover is probably significantly lower than the amount who would appreciate Fall Out Boy (or Taking Back Sunday, or AFI) on the cover.

There are many people on this site who say things like, "Just put Thrice on the cover!" or "Why won't they put Thursday on the cover?" or etc -- we covered both of those bands significantly with large features and big record reviews when their respective new albums came out, and do you know how many letters we got about each? 1 for Thrice and 0 for Thursday. We largely steer our magazine based upon the feedback our readers give us; therefore, if we have a feature about Thursday that gets 0 letters running in the same issue with a feature on Angels & Airwaves which generated a handful of letters, then we're more apt to cover the latter band down the road, not the former.

(Not saying we're putting AVA on the cover, so don't spread rumors -- just making a point.)

Anyway, I understand your concerns and I appreciate that you still support the magazine. I'm sorry the covers haven't appealed to you thus far this year; I do think we have some interesting ones lined up this fall, however, that you'd probably never expect.

Yeah, Davey shouldn't be on the cover. I love AFI, but COME ON. Im not even seeing him at warped tour!!!! They're playing like 9 shows, put someone playing the whole thing. This is his third cover in two months technically (Warped, his own, one with AFI) I know my idol Aaron Gillespie was on the cover last year so you cant put him, but how about Shane from Silverstein??? I really hope I dont get that cover now. And I noticed pretty much 3/4 of that cover are just the political punk bands.... I love Rise Against but I dont wanna see the dude from anti-flag and the horrible Against me! And if your putting people who arnt even doing the whole tour, Maybe Hailey from Paramore. Im not seeing her, but at least shes playing half of it and her voice owns you all.


And the fact that The academy is... hasnt had a cover is totally weird, same with Cartel and the Circa Survive. Anthony Green is destined for a cover, so I won't worry about that.

Also I have another recomendation. When you do the Taste of Chaos/Warped tour editions, I would like to see some NON-SINGERS on the cover. As much as I think Sonny Moore is so rad, Derek Bloom on the cover would seriously make my day. That guy is so talented. But yeah Justin from MCS, that guys iconic so wise choice with him. Beckett is amazing so good job there. And Ben Jorgansen....omg finally. I didnt expect him to make it. Great job.

Having navigated past recruiters and reviewers, Cartel are looking forward to the days where U2 open for them.

This coming from a publication that gave Chroma a 2 out of 5.

Anyway, I look forward to the next issue. Alternative Press is responsible for both keeping me from going insane at work and exposing me to dozens of bands over the years, many of whom I still listen to. I wish people would quit bitching about the covers, but I'm not naive enough to expect it to ever happen.

Yeah, I got my copy last night and that was the first article I read. I love Cartel, and I thought that part was pretty funny. Will sounds better on paper than in that video interview they posted on here.

Also, Davey looks like a fucking chick, esp. with his nails. Seriously, I love AFI, but this is getting ridiculous.

I was viewing the MySpace comments on this picture on AP's prof, and I thought the best comment was some dumb girl saying she loved seeing her four favorite bands on the cover: AFI, Rise Against, Anti-Flag and...Relient K.
