Scientists in Japan have created a device (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=393075&in_page_id=1770&in_a_source=) that captures smells.

What would be the point of this .... I'm sitting here thinking of things that this technology could be useful for; but I'm drawing a blank. Anyone? I know someone out there can think of something.

just to say we can do it.

how cool would that be to send a fart to someone? now you can save them and replay them to friends instead of saying "dude you gotta smell this"

haha

It would probably be a good idea for you to read the article then.

It would probably be a good idea for you to read the article then. The article didn't give any practical uses either... chefs saving a smell? That's pointless.

"And there could be more serious uses. Doctors, miles away from an accident, could be sent the smells around a wound to assess if it is infected." << Right. Because with the amount of knowledge we have today in the field of medicine scent is still the only way to detect infection. Unless I'm greatly mistaken an odor is only given off by infection once it's quite bad and there are obvious physical symptoms of it as well (the smell comes from the pus, in most cases).

This is, pure and simple, the hugest waste of time and money on an invention.

haha, i bet that chef would debate you on the practicality of this device. i really think you should think about what you type before you submit it.

that would be sick if they started using these with movies.
