Texas in July - I Am
Record Label: CI
Release Date: July 2, 2009

Texas in July is a brand new band to me, with a brand new album that was exciting to listen to. Members of the band range from 16-19 and most are still in high school. All of my friends hyped up this album to the point that it made it seem like the album of the year. Surely enough, I was very pleased with what I was presented with. Texas in July released the album July 2nd on CI records only through mail order.

The album starts out with an intro, then leads into an ass-kicking song called "It's Not My First Rodeo". The part that really caught my year was the breakdown that is shoved through the speakers at the end of the song. The vocal range that Alex Good has is very wide, from a high scream to a very low growl that reminds me of very much of the low growl of Jake Luhrs. The next few tracks were just about the same as the first, with the addition of a sling of gang vocals and fast 2-step beats. I really took a liking to Adam Gray's drumming style, once again reminding me of August Burns Red member Matt Greiner. Adam is very busy behind is set, but in the best way possible. I did not notice any fills that seemed out of place or any unnecessary fills that didn't need to be in the songs.

As the album progressed forward, I replayed "Hook, Line and Sinner" about three times. The catchy beat the the song will play in your mind will you force yourself to listen to it again. Now, about the guitar playing behind this album: I thoroughly enjoyed the guitars, but i did not notice them until about three tracks into the album because the drums really drew my attention away from everything.

"Reflections" was another standout song in my eyes. A little bit longer than the rest of the songs, clocking in at 5:15, the song showcases all of the bands true talents. The vocals are represented nicely, along the with drums. I even noticed the bass a little bit in this song, which was great. Guitar work in this song was very fragile, in a good way.

Overall this album was perfect for any Metalcore fan-- very solid for a first album for this band. I cannot wait to see where this album takes this band.

I feel that, for all the positives you've given, the percentage is a little low.

But I still like the review.

I never gave these guys a try. I'm not sure if I should or not.

Saw these guys play locally and I'd say they're talented.
The drummer flips his sticks all around while playing so he's pretty good

They sound identical to August Burns Red, but they're still pretty damn good.

I would tend to agree with this statement. But, I just really like this album. We'll let their next effort be the judge of what I truly think of them.

true. obviously they arent a bad band. clearly they have a nasty drummer and an adequate supporting cast; they know how to play their instruments and put on an energetic live show- but its so obvious they are from the same area in pennsylvania as august burns red. i mean, common, no originality; especially with the drumming, as nasty as he is. adam grey follows beat for beat matt greiner's drumming techniques, and when it comes to metalcore, or for any style of music for that matter, the drumming is a huge factor...
but yes, we cant be too harsh. this is there first album, pretty legit i must say. and they are very young. they got an undeniable future ahead of them.... hopefully

yea, because that's what determines a good drummer.
/sarcasm.

not a big metalcore fan but downloaded this album for some gym music after hearing them on last.fm...wow. Might just get me into some more metalcore. After reading this review I think its a safe bet I should add August Burns Red to my ipod and give it a spin at the gym. Anyways...if you haven't listened to this and are using this review as a basis for your decision...go for it! Awesome stuff, the drummer is sensational
