I've had a few of their albums for a while and, much like most Ambient music, it takes quite some time to "work" for me. Labradford now works for me.

I've been listening to Mi Media Naranja the most and I find that it's an album that slowly builds, at an almost maddening, gradual pace, but eventually climaxes in a delicate way.

Any fans? Anyone check out Mark Nelson's solo stuff as Pan American? If so, how is it?

Labradford is a U.S. post-rock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-rock) musical group from Richmond, Virginia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richmond,_Virginia), founded in 1992. They have released six full albums from 1993 to 2001. Though not officially disbanded, its members have since been active with separate projects.

Founded in 1992,[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labradford#cite_note-founded-0) Labradford consists of bassist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bassist) Robert Donne, guitarist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitarist)/vocalist Mark Nelson, and keyboardist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboardist) Carter Brown. Their music style is experimental ambient (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambient_music) and post-rock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-rock), although their first releases were much more related to dark drone rock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drone_music).
In 1993, they released their debut album Prazision (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prazision) on Kranky Records (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kranky_Records), which has remained their home since. The group's music mostly drifts on the guitar effects and the keyboard passages, with the vocals, when present, in the background.

Sounds like great winter chill music. Maybe I'll download Mi Media Naranja off iTunes with my gift card I got for Christmas.

Is there any significance to their song names on that album being just a letter or two each?

I'm not sure, Tim. As they progressed, their later recordings featured some eccentric choices in track titles. For instance, E Luxo So features titles that list the producers' credits. Regardless, I hope you dig it, if you're inclined to download it.

Huh, just checked, and the songs on E Luxo So are labeled as "Untitled 1," etc., on iTunes. The review at the top of the page mentions these song credit titles, though, accrediting them to the band's sense of humor and focus on music over lyrics.

Mi Media Naranja and the self-titled are the only releases I listen to with any regularity. Solid stuff to be sure.

God, their work sounds great while walking around a campus devoid of students during night.

I ended up getting Mi Media Naranja and like it thus far, but that's only with one listen. Albums of this nature tend to be growers, though, so maybe I'll love it by this time next year.

Albums like this make me which I had one of those cables to listen to your iPod in your car. This would be great winter night driving music.
