Does anyone else think this song has a reference to the band Roman Candle from Chapel Hill? I swear that Nate and this guy sound almost identical. I thought Roman Candle may have been ripping them off but they were out long before. Some songs from interventions sound a lot like Roman Candle songs from their cd says pop too. Weird coincidence?

I really don't see how these two songs sound the same, the melodies and song structures from the two songs are very different from each other.
i only see similarities vocally.

Voices are similar, song nature is similar, some odd coincidences with the lyrics and band name, but musically the songs seem different enough.

The vocals are similar in that Roman Candle's singer and Nate Ruess sound quite a bit alike. I wouldn't be surprised if Nate found a bit of influence in his vocals.
From what I gather, "Light a Roman Candle With Me" was written by Andrew Dost. When I saw them a few months back they said the song was about growing up in northern Michigan. That doesn't mean there couldn't be a Roman Candle shout-out, but I wouldn't invest too much into it.

yeah, just thought it was interesting. I only see vocal similarities mostly but every time I hear the song I wish I was in New York on college radio I swear its the Format and then I finally found out it was these guys. Either way if you like the Format this is a pretty cool band to check out. Their most recent record is pretty awesome.

hmm i don't know, the vocals are weirdly similar and they sound very Interventions & Lullabies... but it's probably a strange coincidence. i dig them, though.

I'm going to check out Roman Candle based solely upon this song. But yes, they do sound similar in vocals.

I think it's okay, but there's just something about the songs that make me not love it, or want to hear more. I hear the similarity to Nate though.
