So he got signed to Island, released I Get Wet, became a star and all that. Then when he convinced Island to let him try something he liked, he released The Wolf and it was universally panned. Then he was stuck in a situation were he had to basically do what Island wanted him too since the act is Andrew W.K., but because it's his own real names he's been releasing all the weird shit he wants to make, but can't put out here and be commericially viable, he does this in countries like South Korea, UK, etc. But he's still a dude that likes to party and all that, it's just kind of a shitty situation for him. Basically just comes down to label woes.

Andrew W.K. is the best, I hope he gets everything figured out, he's doing a huge Q&A about the whole thing in NY pretty soon so there will be some more stuff figured out there

see, i don't know if it is "performance art". it could very well be backpedaling from someone with many fans who adhere to DIY in some aspect since he fears backlash if they find out he was built by a record label. That's all I'm confused by, is his concept of inclusiveness sincere or is it just corporate bs meant to sell records (it was, a common criticism of I Get Wet that it was meant to be the soundtrack to commercials and hollywood movies).

I don't think he's got "handlers" any more than any other major label celebrity does. the question is: how much of the AWK concept was made by this "committee" and how much of it was him. I love the guy's music and message haha, I pre-ordered the double album that comes out in February.

I'm still not sure if he's the same person, but I would like to believe it's been the same guy for all these years; either way, his music has been some of the most positive stuff to be out in a long while.
