the show last night in fort worth was amazing. jesse was playing some weird noise with his guitar alone crazy rhythms with pedals after a song and some guy yelled "play a fucking song" so i yelled " fuck you to him" and jesse proceeded to play all the guitars and keep the noise going seemingly to be a smart ass to the dick that said that. hahaha. so awesome.

Last night in Ft. Worth, Tx, as he was about to play "untitled 6" he said just wait and hear the mastered version when the album comes out OCTOBER. 3 or 4 months is about right.

People act that way because to them, maybe Brand New does seem like "God's gift to music".

Just because their music doesn't hit you as hard as it may hit others doesn't mean what you say is a fact. So now what I want you to do is get the fuck out of this thread, and go listen to the music you like.

i was at this show tonight (houston) and the whole vibe just seemed sad and depressing to me. i think the moment that made me feel that way was firstly during me vs. maradona vs. elvis when all the girls screamed and yelled during the "all the girls drink for free" part, which makes absolutely NO SENSE since the song is about a girl being taken advantage of and yet all the girls in the crowd are idiots and love this part just cause they think it glamorizes drinking or something. another sad part was when jesse said before playing "soco amaretto lime" that he doesnt feel anything for the song anymore and does not get anything out of playing it but he only plays it to satisfy the crowd, which i find to be really sad that every night hes playing songs he feels no connection to and would rather just see disappear and never have to play again. i felt this vibe from jesse during most of the YFW songs especially 70x7 and soco. the best songs of the night were DEF the new ones, which i thought were insanely good. the elitist in me sorta hopes the new record alienates a bunch of the current brand new fans cause the show tonight was packed full of "fratty guys" who were moshing and punching people for no reason, idiot teenage girls who were all happy during the "all the girls drink for free" part and apparently have no idea what any of the lyrics jesse sings are about, and a bunch of kids who had no idea the words to any of the songs cept "sig transit" and "quiet things". overall i just felt like jesse wasnt feeling the older songs and prob just wants to move onto the newer stuff and is very tired of all the fake fans who have no idea what any of his songs are about. other examples include people moshing during "sig transit" (a song thats about jesse losing his virginity for crying out loud!) and yelling during dumb ass parts and when jesse told all the hecklers to shut up when he was trying to talk and say something serious. ps. Colour Revolt was really good live. go on and hate now about what i just said, its just weird for me to go to concerts like this when ive been listening to brand new for like 6 years now and am used to seeing them in small venues with only people who really care about the band and don't just go see them cause they like that one song they had on MTV2.maybe im getting too old for this "scene".

i was at this show tonight (houston) ....

That's so sad about Soco!

While we are on "interesting recent Brand New Show notes" during everyone song that had the word "girl" Jesse sang the word "boy" instead. I.E.: "It's ladies night, all the boys drink for me" to which he burst out with laughter afterwards.

another sad part was when jesse said before playing "soco amaretto lime" that he doesnt feel anything for the song anymore and does not get anything out of playing it but he only plays it to satisfy the crowd, which i find to be really sad that every night hes playing songs he feels no connection to and would rather just see disappear and never have to play again. i felt this vibe from jesse during most of the YFW songs especially 70x7 and soco. .

you arent the only one that heard that. for me and my friends, that song meant alot at one point in time, and for him to be so indifferent to it is just really depressing. i wonder why he played it. it was a nice gesture on his part but for him to be sooo depressed with that song, is just hard to hear.

also, the end of the song was heart wrenching, because he sang, "im just jealous cause you're young and you're young and you're young...." don't know if you caught that.

anyway, it was a pretty good show. i went for the nostalgia, because that crowd sure as hell pissed me off.

I agree completly with Paul Wall about the show and the sort of crowd that was there really ruined the show. Paul Wall, it's pretty much that way with any remotely big band you go see. I hope this isn't something new for you, otherwise you're in for a rude awakening.

If the album is anything like the demos, stylistically and structure-wise, I could see them losing a number of fans; none of the choruses are particularly "big." The songs are more subtle, even if the influences are even more obvious on a few of the songs (which are still really good).

I think part of the problem is that our perception of what makes a live show "good" or not is really skewed. For example, I just recently saw Radiohead live (obviously, top 5 rock shows of my lifetime), but there still people there trying to scream along to the slower songs, moshing to songs that are not meant to be moshed to... in American culture, this is what every rock concert has become.

In saying this, I'll be seeing Brand New in 3 days, and I'm looking forward to seeing the guys do what they do best: play music.

It's time for us, the music-consuming community, to stop thinking that every band is supposed to be catering to us from the stage.

yeah, me and my 5 friends were in the verrrrry far back, so we could actually see the stage, we just didnt want to be a part of the bullshit crowd.

i also like how during "i will play my game," the line, 'i am paid to make girls panic while i sing," is in my opinion making fun of the exact same girls who scream that lyric at the top of their lungs.

Well was everybody supposed to stand sit there and be sad for jessie when they sang sic transit? its a faster song so people did what they felt like doing. dont get pissed because kid were just having fun. That being said there were alot of frat guys attempting to mosh and a lot of little annoying emo girls, so yea i could have done without all that but thats just something that comes with a band getting bigger. I loved the new stuff, the song they played before 70x7 was amazing. .

you know, i have to disagree. i've been to a large amount of big shows, where i could honestly say i've had a better time than some small shows. certain big bands (deftones come to mind) always have a solid-following, and it always makes the show worth paying over 20 bucks for. of course, the bigger the show, the more dipshits, but if you stand in the right place, you can get away.

For the person who said Jesse said he didn't care about Soco, that's not at all what he said or meant with comment. What he said was that, being 28, he doesn't feel the same way about life anymore as when he wrote it (at age 18). He then said he plays it because he knows his following is younger and that they felt the way he did when he was 18. So he does it for them. If anything, I think that's pretty cool.

and also, if he hated the song, why would he stop singing at the end and let the crowd sing the whole end of the song, just watching them with a HUGE smile on his face. That's not too depressing

you are alot smarter than your username implies

since when does a silly username define the intelligence of a person on the internet?? fyi, my username is a joke, however i have met paul wall before and he's actually smarter than you would think he is, he has a really successful business and he actually has a college degree.

It's time for us, the music-consuming community, to stop thinking that every band is supposed to be catering to us from the stage.

i dont know if you were directing that statement to me but if you were then i guess i got my point across wrong, i'm not blaming brand new at all, i thought their set was awesome and they sounded better than ever and the new songs were DEF the best ones of the night and impressed me alot, im really excited to hear the new record and am willing to wait another year if i have to cause im sure it will be just as good if not better than deja.

you're right about the commentary on americans at concerts. i guess it just comes down to the fact that mainstream america is mostly composed of idiots and people who mindlessly follow what they think is "correct" to do at a concert based on tv/media/movies/etc.

everyone still needs to go see brand new though this tour just to see and hear the new songs, which are incredible.

I also enjoyed colour revolt, probably gonna give them a listen sometime soon, and i thought nightmare of you was great too, apparently im the only one in the damn building that thought that.

NOY was good also. i dont like the singer's voice but they played really well, their last few songs were really good, the first half of their set was kind of boring to me though. the crowd def showed no love to coulor revolt and NOY though, which further proves that most of the crowd is a bunch of idiots. i mean NOY is former movielife so people should at least show some love for that.

NOY have the same exact influences, give or take Bright Eyes, so there's absolutely no reason Brand New fans shouldn't like them.

if you want real solid news on brand new, join the street team.
it's never failed me, and it's how i got tickets so easily to the first show of this tour.
they did say that they had finished recording a day or two before that show and that he was hoping for a fall release. (which would be nice considering the new brand new album was one of the most anticipated albums of 2005.)
the 70x7 thing at the starland show, afterthefact i've heard all these drama about how he doesn't want to play the song anymore and that that night was the last ngiht they were going to play it because jesse said "this is the last one" to brian, but i was under the impression that he meant last song, because during their REAL last song, jesse flubbed it up a little and forgot the words to sic transit. i just assumed he wanted to make it up to the crowd, since we weren't a shitty depressing one. :)

and for the record, to everyone who keeps overusing the phrase "they're not god's gift to music"; what do you know, and when did opinion become fact?
let a ***** live.
