Okay so, my girlfriend reads quite abit, but she's always complaining about how the ending to her books are predictable and that "just once i'd like to see a piano fall on them." now I know the chances of finding a romantic novel that ends with a piano fatality are slim. So i'm just looking for any romantic novel with an unexpected ended.

I've tried searching everywhere and can't find anything apart from the obvious books that are already movies.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

a novel with romance is okay. she reads quite alot as long as it's not sci-fi i think, that's pretty much all she doesn't read. but it's mainly like romance / crime stuff like that.

The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao is pretty damn fantastic, and it has some humorous and dramatic romance in it. Highly recommended.

Derailed by James Siegel was a great read. Romance-y/relationship-y but a great thriller too.

Survivor and Invisible Monsters would be good choices, but I'd read up the plot summary on amazon for both just to make sure cuz you know her better than I.

If she likes him, get her to read Rant eventually.

House of Leaves
A Clockwork Orange
Satan Burger
The Haunted Vagina...vagina = romance right?
American Gods
Slaughterhouse Five
Lolita...is somewhat romantic I guess
Click by Kristopher Young has some form of romance...kind of.
and of course, the ultimate romance novel:
Twilight.

I dont read romance novels, I dont know too much about romance or really know it when I see it. I'm a sci-fi girl at heart so these are probably not the best for her.

I think what you meant here was Cat's Cradle.

And yes, it's quite a good book.

No Sci-fi? :[ I was going to suggest the Sookie Stackhouse novels. They all fall into the Sci-Fi/Mystery/Romance genres and are addictive as crack. Um, the only other book I could recommend is Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier. It's a Romance/Thriller set in the late '30s.

not to turn this into a Palahniuk thread but i have been so disappointed with his work after Lullaby (Diary and Haunted were atrocious). Rant had so much potential but I think it fell flat. Anyone read Snuff or Pygmy?

I think Rant is his best, honestly. I'm not too big a fan of Diary either, and I don't remember Haunted much. Snuff is tin the same style of Rant, except each chapter is a different person instead of there being 6 people in a chapter, and there is way more sex haha. Pygmy is written entirely in broken english. Pygmy isn't bad, but it's not a must read.

Looking For Alaska, John Green

Also Paper Towns by the same author

Romance and WTFs throughout both. Great reads.

maybe not some form of fiction? for example, this girl I'm interested in is wanting to become a kindergarden teacher, so for her b-day I got her a chicken soup book with heartwarming elementary school stories, and season 1 of degrassi (She's a huge fan.)

Gosh, romantic novels. I guess Mills and Boon are getting quite popular again. I love anything Jane Austin. "Tails of Love" by Sarah McCarty which is full of short stories is a good read from last year. Depends what she is into! I loved the Twilight books but some peeps find them quite simple. I also love "P.S. I Love You!" by Cecelia Ahern.

If she doesn't like predictable endings etc, DO NOT get her Twilight. She will hate you for it ;D

From what you've said, I'd be inclined to say that she and I perhaps have quite similar tastes in books and I really, really enjoy Chuck Palahniuk (Rant is my favourite of his that I've read); I loved Rebecca; Jane Eyre's a good one that I certainly didn't find predictable!
One of my favourite books of all time is The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets by Eva Rice. It might be a bit predictable, but I just love the era (it's set in the 50s) and I don't know... There's just something about it that makes me want to read it over and over again.

Nope it's an actual book--I thought the title sounded familiar and we had it on shelf at work so I pulled it and I'm gonna start reading it tomorrow.
