stevie y was awesome, but how did he give up personal success? He won multiple cups, was known as one of the best players in the league and will be a lock for the hall of fame.

i believe what he meant was that steve couldve left detroit and got paid in mad ways but chose to stay loyal to detroit instead.
This guy was always straight class.

That, and Yzerman could've gotten sick offensive stats his whole career. By doing that he would've sacrificed his defensive and leadership qualities.

Yzerman is a hockey players hockey player. I dont like the Wings but I always liked and respected Yzerman.

Thats what i was getting at. Yzerman gave up his own stats (goals and points) to focus more on defense and the team.

The longest tenured captain in the history of hockey and in my opinion, the best captain in the history of the game, as well.
Yzerman is a hockey players hockey player. I dont like the Wings but I always liked and respected Yzerman.

i agree, i think he was a better captain than Messier was. And he was with Detriot for 22 years, thats unheard of today
