View Full Version : Most Influential

Which individual CD's will be the most influential to the music in this 'scene' in the next 10-20 years?
I chose these because these seem to already be having an effect on a lot of the new music currently coming out.
So I'm seeing what everyone think will be the huge influential CD (or CD's) for music in this scene in the next few years. What Cd's will have the same kind of effect on music that ones released by Glasseater, Sunny Day Real Estate, Rites Of Spring, and Fugazi did.
And with every one of these bands you can't say that there's not already another band or bands out there that are influenced by one of these. Every single one. Including the more recent releases. These are all from within the last 8 years.

i sat STD, BN, and TBS...all 3 of those cd have incredible playability, lyricism, and thought...def my favorites and in 10-20 years new bands will be thanking those bands for their influence

i put 5 or 6 of them, but i gotta add in Fall Out Boy- From Under the Cork Tree. personally, i dislike this cd like most other ppl around here do, but it will influence the "scene" because bands know they can make it big with that style. it has started already. just look at P!atd and the rest of FBR.

i don't know about that. pop-punk seems to be fading out to me.

i think SA, STD, Thursday and JEW should be, beca
but for the scene as a whole, Deja Entendu will probably leave the biggest mark.

One of the biggest influences in today's scene is Jimmy Eat World's Clarity. The influences of the music in 10-20 years will be what's going on today. That's why it will be Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, Thursday, etc.

i'm surprised Straylight Run & SoCo haven't gotten much choice. Am I the only whose noticed all the new Piano Rock bands coming out lately? (This Day & Age, Waking Ashland, Pistolita, plenty more..)

personaly the very first used album was a big influence on me.......but in the long run i think it will be albums like taking back sundays first, brand news deja entendu, anything by thursday, anything by saves the day, pretty much the majority of the c.d.s on that list.......i think the glassjaw albums will be a big influence on experimental hardcore/metal/sceamo bands...i know i will probably get shit for saying this but i belive panic! at the disco will be a big influence for a lot of different genres for the next 10-20 years.......im not a big fan of theirs but they are a talented band.

i'm surprised Relationship of Command isn't a lot higher on here. anyone, ask the members of your 10 favorite bands if you get the chance, and atleast 1 in 5 will say this is one of their favorite CDs.

Refused- The Shape Of Punk To Come.
Yeah but I don't people would call that a "Scene" album but it's beyond words how influental that record is I feel the same with Deja Entendu, Full Collapse, Clarity, & Realation Ship Of Command. Possibly: Juturna & ...Is A Real Boy

ATDI, Thursday, TBS, BN.
i could never get into Refused. i don't know why, i just never could.
they changed my whole outlook on music. i used to only listen to punk....and then after i heard them it got me into more experimental stuff and lots of hard core, sceamy stuff.

I would add Poison The Well - The Opposite Of December too, that album is a big influence for a lot of newer hardcore/metalcore bands.

The only thing that should be getting votes on this list is At the Drive-In. They influenced everyone nowadays.
And GlassJaw should be on that list because they practically invented the scene. ETYEWTKAS and W&T are masterpieces and are more influential and anything on that list (except ATDI)
And I'd say that Say Anything will be the future of Rock and Roll

If more people heard Ribbons & Sugar, I think it would be among the top.
PS - I don't really get Pollyanna. It's pretty good but doesn't strike me as anywhere near amazing.

quoted for truth. i was gonna post the exact same thing. i think death cab for cute is along the same lines as being a current band that's gonna spawn a ton of imitators based on their own success. a lot of the ones on the list are bands whose influence is already happening/happened (nfg, atdi, jew, thursday). scoff all you like, but brand new is probably the one from that list that will be most inlfuential on the next generation of bands. general rule if you want to know what music is gonna sound like a few years down the line: look at the stuff that's getting the most hype at the moment and the elitists are calling "overrated trash".
