mixing in Logic Express

So Ive been using LE for about a year, and know how to use it well I would say. The song sounds good so far, except for the drums. Any tips on how to get the drums to sound better, or just mixing tips in general? Ive tried using WaveArts plugins and they seem alright, but my drummer plays very loud so Im having a hard time with it peaking, even when the gain level is below zero.. The Limiter takes the peaking away but makes the sound worse.. Any suggestions or hints would be greatly appreciated!

Put on a limiter and lower the gain on it. I'm assuming you're using Logic's limiter? Did the recording itself clip slightly, because if so you're pretty much SOL on drum tracks, but if not, then keep playing around with the limiter and its gain feature- it'll hopefully clear it up and lower the overall output.
