Until The Bombs
01/06/10, 06:19 PM
Director: Danny Boyle
Starring: James Franco
It seems director has found the leading man for his about an incredibly brave mountain climber. According to Production Weekly's Twitter feed, has signed on to star in 127 Hours.
Franco will portray mountain climber Aron Ralston, who made national news in 2003 when he was forced to amputate his own arm that was crushed under a boulder for more than five days, while climbing in Utah. After the amputation, he had to climb a 65-foot wall of rock and hiked until he was discovered by a family and later rescued by helicopter.
The film was said to start production at the beginning of March in Utah.
sounds kid of cliched in a way, but i love boyle and franco.

JGL's character.
Crap, I wish he would've been in it. Other than Ellen Page, JGL was the weakest part of Inception.

You're probably the only one who feels that way.
You're probably the only one who feels that way.
Hardly. All he was was an exposition machine. Almost every character had little depth, but his was probably the least amount.
And he's not that great of an actor. Not bad necessarily, but nothing incredible. Tom Hardy was way better than him.
James Franco could have brought something interesting to a bland character.
I still loved the movie though.

The teaser's not the best thing I've ever seen, but Danny Boyle's one of my favorites and it didn't do anything to damped my enthusiasm. I bet the full-length trailer will be a lot better. Can't wait til Nov 5th. And JGL is one of my favorites, too.

Just read another review over at http://www.filmjunk.com/2010/10/13/127-hours-review/ and I'm officially excited. This reviewer has some pretty high standards, considering his other reviews, but the score and the way he describes this movie excites me so much.

Oh, me neither. But after a few weeks it was in Philly then every theatre in my area had it. Sucks that it's how they do it, but definitely has to do with the idea of keeping supply limited to keep interest, and thus demand, high. Between the director, the reviews, and the somewhat famous star, it won't be too long before the general public starts seeing it and talking about it.

Why did he eat the contact lenses? I don't wear them or know anyone very closely that does ... was he looking for the liquid of the solution or something?
And man, did I cry like a fucking child when he was finally found, music started playing, helicopter, etc.. The emotions that he was going through the entire 4 days and how incredible Franco portrayed it hit me like a sack of shit right in the face all at the end there and I honestly lost it. It was like a, "YES! YES! YES! Finally, it's over! He's saved!" cry, though, not a sad-cry.So good. Loved it to pieces. My movie of the year at this (very early) point.

Saw this tonight. Brilliant movie. I actually think technically speaking, this one of Boyle's best directed movies. The Gatorade shot was really brilliant and I love the back and forth between Aron's hallucinations and memories. Franco did a really solid job of handling it I have to say. The ending though...with the pool scene. It got to me. Best use of Sigur Ros in a movie. Kinda of surprised how much I liked and the more I think of it, the more I think of how great it was done.

I thought he was just putting it in his mouth to get them wet again or whatever. May have missed the fact that he ate them at some point though?
Thought this movie was fantastic. Definitely Franco's best work to date. Some really amazing scenes. Agreed on the gatorade scene too - amazing. Even simple shots like placing a camera inside of the water bottle, or the scene showing the knife in his arm from under the skin, or when he had to drink his piss, just the way Boyle chooses to show these simple things to you are so interesting and inventing. Also, amazing ending.

It's the ticket price at the new theater which is the only place where this movie is playing. $4 more for imax and then some extra for 3D, which is why I havent seen any new movies. We also have a $3 theater, but the movies come out there a few months after the release date.

I don't see how people have been vomiting and passing out due to that scene. It really isn't that bad at all. It wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting it to be.

What did you expect? It was literally a guy cutting off his arm.

I mean it wasn't like a still shot of him hacking away at his arm and blood spewing and pumping out of the wound for 4 straight minutes. I never felt a need to look away from the screen, and that type of thing has a propensity to make me queasy.

I wanted to say Franco had an incredible performance, but rather I find myself thinking "That was some really great casting" -- The acting didn't stand out to me as much as the seamless fit between story and cast

I saw this last night, and thought it was great. Loved the talk show scene, and how well they showed his mental state.
The only thing I didn’t really like was how they pointed out the rock before it crushed him. I would have liked it to have been more abrupt or out of nowhere, but that’s just me being picky.

Why the fuck would anyone watch a movie if they don't know the single reason why the movie was even made? I agree, human beings are stupid, but you're really selling us short, duder. Of course it isn't, but that's not the point. Point is, anyone that considers that a spoiler is an asshole themselves. It doesn't make the scene any less compelling or disturbing or graphic.

I saw the commercial and I think the doctors severed someone's limb in order to help someone who was stuck, not even as if that person severed his or her own limb. The former situation happens in movies and television a lot, I don't think they ripped off anything.
I hate when there's a comparison to something recent like it's the only one of its kind. For example, people comparing Battle: Los Angeles to Independence Day as if it's the only movie about alien invasion. Just saying.
