quite possibly my favorite band ever. they have no official thread. that's damn near criminal. it's a big year for them too, with the Planets of Old CDEP/Comeback show DVD coming out on January 26th, and the b-sides collection Abnormalities vol. 1 & 2 coming out in April, and supposedly there's gonna be more new material. appreesh

no official thread though just an excuse to talk about them I guess haha

listen to Perfect Pitch Black next, since it has a mix of their heavier and poppier styles. from there check out the Planets of Old EP from a few months ago. then if you like heavier shit go for Until Your Heart Stops, but if you wanted to hear a poppier/trimmed version of Jupiter, listen to Antenna. check out their other shit as well after. or something. just my inner fanboy talking

WOAH! Where did you hear about the B-sides disc? I didn't know that it actually had a title and release date! Here I thought I had one up'd you on all matters Cave In! I take it by the 1 & 2 that is will be a double disc(or so I hope). They have so much good unreleased crap, damn I can't wait! I also am very excited for the Planets of Old release. I'm hoping to see myself somewhere on the dvd since I was right up front.

Anyways, yes this is my absolute favorite band as well. Jupiter is the best disc that I own and Antenna is not far behind. I absolutely do NOT understand why the band themselves don't like Antenna, but I guess I can understand getting sick of playing those tunes live. I didn't even get into these guys until Antenna came out. I feel like I missed so much good stuff by getting into them so late. Best Cave In song: Innuendo And Out The Other.

Damn, I always forget about theprp.com. I've got my fingers crossed for some crazy stuff that never made it to the illegal downloading sites. It's be nice to have inflatable dream on an offical release. Oh shat, I bet we get some Mr. Co-Dexterity as well. That is probably their best "metal" song.

The bonus live disc is awesome. I can remember some of the banter. I want to see Cave In again.... NOW!

I think I read on hydrahead that the B-SIDES disc might not be out until later this year. Bummer. Bring on that new Brodsky disc!

Cave In & Isis are playing together in June:

I want to make the drive / catch a flight up there, but I don't know; it's bad timing for me.

I've heard some of their material hear and there over the past couple years but haven't gotten around to picking up any of their albums. Shame on me, I know. I've had tastes of both their heavier and more accessible tunes, though, and I've really liked everything I've heard. Guess I should actually pick up a Cave In album ASAP. What's generally considered their best work, if they have one?

So um. Apparently Cave-In released a limited edition live album in 2003 that's now available for sale in their Web store? (http://hydraheadlines.blogspot.com/2010/08/cave-in-anomalies-vol-2-live-in-milan.html)

It depends on who you ask. But I'm partial to Jupiter.

Cave in is fucking amazing. Everything they do is great, and even though I LOVE Until Your Heart Stops, Antenna and stuff in that veins not bad either.

Dude is there any better way to open an album than Moral Eclipse --> Terminal Deity? Its even better than Concubine --> Fault and Fracture.

And speaking of both Cave in and Converge, anyone ever hear Kid Killowatt? It was a bunch of poppy stuff written and played by a combination of the members from Converge and Cave In like ten years ago. Awesome album.

here (http://hydrahead.com/store/#au=CaveIn) are all their releases (minus Antenna) for $4 or less. I'd go with either Jupiter or Perfect Pitch Black, and then check out Antenna which, even though its their space rock sound but more streamlined, is probably my favorite album ever. all their stuff is worth checking out though

I think I'm on the same page as everyone else when it comes to Antenna - It's a great album if you pretend it's not Cave-In. Haha. I love it, but...Let's face it. It's a respectable, stadium-ready major label rock record, not Cave-In.

If that makes sense. Shrug.

I agree and disagree. I'd say it's just a more digestable version of Cave In (the way RCA wanted, I'm assuming). I probably would like it less if I had gotten Jupiter or Perfect Pitch Black first, but I remember hearing "Anchor" around the time the album came out but buying it for like $2 two years later, and it just was a gateway to so much more music, definitely responsible for me listening to alot of what I do now. of course there are songs that RCA probably pressured them into ("Inspire", "Anchor"), but how awesome is "Seafrost" and "Youth Overrided"?

Stephen Brodsky seems to agree with you though (http://www.self-titledmag.com/home/2009/11/19/disco-stephen-brodsky-contemplates-the-entire-cave-in-catalog-including-that-one-bloated-rca-record-and-our-favorite-metal-album-of-all-time/)

oh and I really hope there's more spaciness on the new album. Planets Of Old is awesome, but their new material is missing alot of what made me fall in love with them in the first place. we'll see

I'm not denying the awesomeness of anything on that record, haha. But it's pretty much just...Not Cave-In stylistically. I mean, it is...But it's Cave-In playing a polished, stadium-ready rock record. It's a great record, it's just not the Cave-In I love. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's just different. :-d

I started with Antenna, which is a very accessible rock album. If you want spacey stuff checkout Jupiter and Tides Of Tomorrow. For heavier stuff go for Until Your Heart Stops and Beyond Hypothermia. If you want a good mix of it all Perfect Pitch Black and White Silence are awesome.
