He didnt dive. It was an obvious obstruction. It was a penalty. The defender was an idiot to go down in the first place.

I agree but these pictures are still funny/.

if it wasn't in the box, would grosso have been "obstructed" and fallen over?

Maybe not, but do you honestly expect a player to try and move around the tackling defender when you are that close to the goal, and trying to somehow get the ball past him would ruin your chance at scoring? No. Not one player in the world cup would have done that.

Neill does possibly the worst slide tackle in the history of soccer, he does a complete 180 in attempt to trip up Grosso who would otherwise avoided the tackle.

yeah but not every referee would have given that as a penalty

he was trying to block the cross not slide tackle. if grosso wanted to avoid the tackle, he could have. theres noone on the right side of him, he could of easily swung onto his right side.

there was no way in hell Grosso could have avoided that tackle. Also I know you're Australian but seriously you can't blame Grosso for Neill being a complete dumb ass.

i wouldnt call him a dumbass, cos after grosso left bresciano for dead on the wing, he had no choice but to run down and defend. he did go to ground abit early, but i think that was more in desperation than stupidity. either way, grosso still went to ground too easily imo

Well you have to think that Italy played a man down for how long? He was tired as fuck and after a break like that I'm sure he has no energy to jump over a man and kick a ball. Neill should have stayed up a second longer.
Neill shouldnt've gone down full stop... he was in the area, all he had to do was stay on his feet and block his route to goal, there were other defenders piling back.

Grosso basically fell over the defender. He could have easily just jumped over him. Eurgh, Italy. Yuck.
he obstructed him, no point complaining it wasnt a penalty because it quite clearly was. may not have been contact, but Neill was stupid enough to go down and miss the ball in the box

Neill grabs Grosso's back foot (watch the left hand).

Yeah, he did obstruct him, but it's just the way they all just go down whenever they have an oppourtunity, it's like they'd rather do down than actually score. Plus the way they celebrated like they'd won the world cup was a bit sad. I mean, who the hell celebrates winning a penalty?
ummm ????
umm what? face it, it was a clear penalty... i said 'may not', but now told he held his foot, either way it would've been given. with the amount of defenders piling back you cannot afford to dive into a tackle and miss the ball, if you make contact it'll be a foul and if you miss it'll be obstruction

a team that are drawing 0-0 in the final minute of a game that will allow them to carry on in the world cup...
absolutely anyone would've gone down there he had more chance of getting a penalty than scoring it himself.

You must really lack some key elements. You would have celebrated like crazy had it been England.
with the amount of defenders piling back you cannot afford to dive into a tackle and miss the ball, if you make contact it'll be a foul and if you miss it'll be obstruction
the thing is, he didn't make contact from the tackle itself. he only made contact when grosso tried to walk over him
he had more chance of getting a penalty than scoring it himself.
that's no justification for falling down
if you honestly beleive it wasnt a penalty youre delusional, sorry.

that's no justification for falling down Getting your foot grabbed is. Anyways wy are you looking for justification? It's what ANY single player would have done.
also it's funny that they ignore that Matterazzi's card was diabolically harsh

it was more a love tap than a grab. he already half way down by time they made contact anyway
have u seen when the croatian defend is borderline wrestling viduka back from the ball in the box and the referee just waved play on?
also it's funny that they ignore that Matterazzi's card was diabolically harsh
if australia had won, they'd probably be crying about that incident for the next 2 years

this kind of ignorance is what makes me stand up for Italy.

Haha obviously. Not if I was a player though, I would have been happy, but I wouldn't have fucking ran up with my teamates as if I'd scored a goal, but that's Italy, and for them, blagging a cheap penalty is as good as anything.

or maybe that italian flag in your signature has something to do with it

at least we're not stupid enough to match-fix professional soccer AND get busted

because noone cares enough about australian domestic football to bother fixing it.

In true Arsene Wenger fashion, I didn't see it, and I'm telling the truth haha.

i was refering to the premier league cos australia domestic is truly insignificant but nevertheless it just makes it even more stupid to fix italian soccer when the whole worlds watching
im not bothered, Lazio could get demoted, and if so i'd dance the happy dance.

I fail to see how what a handful of club managers did has anything to do with the fact that Grosso didnt dive.

i still think he dove. It was a penalty, solely because he dove.
It won't matter after today.
