I don't think you're right about the oscar. Independent Spirit? maybe. The reviews pouring in right now are focusing on the misogyny and the AMPAS rarely recognizes that type of performance. Not to say it hasn't happened but when it DOES (boys don't cry / monster most recently) it is the woman's involvement that gets recognized.

I've only read people's comments on message boards, no real reviews. Yeah, all of them keep saying the violence, but they'd be just as mad if it wasn't faithful to the book which was just as violent.

I absolutely loved this movie. Great noir feel throughout. Jessica Alba wasn't prominent, which made the movie even better. Positive side note: film has a lot of shots of great asses.

Saw this in theaters today, it was average at best. I don't know why the violence is such a hot topic, it was nothing compared to hundreds of other films so that didn't even factor into my thoughts on the film. It is a good story with good actors, but it is very long and drawn out. And coming from someone who has never read the book or seem the other film, the movie doesn't do such a good job of explaining alot of stuff (specifically the ending). I enjoyed it, but I would lie if I wasn't constantly wondering how much longer was in the film

There were a handful of moments throughout the book I loved.

the part where the cops are questioning him about the murders and he's answering with a smile on his face was awesome. I could picture Casey Affleck in my head during that part.
And that one part where Bob says "It's always lightest just before the dark"
"You got it wrong Bob"
"Huh - uh, you got it wrong"

I really liked that line. The ending had me scratching my head though. It was like a page and a half and I literally had to re read the ending 3 or 4 times to understand what happened

Just saw this, Affleck was amazing, such a great actor.

Nobody I saw it with agrees with me, but the whole last scene was just in his head right? It had to be, he would not have been let out of the asylum, the cops would never have brought the girl there, they would have smelled the gas, they wouldn't have let her get that close, and he told the one cop to "be quiet, there are no lines for you in this part". Plus we see him going crazy with the whole slideshow scene.

Finally saw this the other night, liked it. Pretty intense/difficult to watch at parts, but Affleck was pretty top notch
