Unlike my SKRAMZ article, this is neither a joke nor trashing the genre. You won't find a better overview than this one, and be sure to read the comments too- bros from Spazz, Black Army Jacket, etc chimed in with additions, corrections, etc. I wrote this a few months ago on Metal Inquisition but never posted it here:
Imagine you are kneeling in front of a bathtub, and it is filled to the brim with human shit. You're elbow-deep, fishing around in it because you heard there were half a dozen diamonds in this giant container of feces. This is what it would be like to sift through the glut of so-called power violence records that came out in the 90s: almost the entire genre is the worst kind of generic garbage, with a handful of releases rising to the top. Sounds like a waste of time, right? Not so fast: The good stuff is so, so good that it is better than almost anything ever recorded in any genre (if you have heard "Downsided" you know what I'm talking about). Fortunately for those of you who aren't as familiar with the genre as I (regrettably) am, we're here to help.
If you've ever felt like digging into power violence but don't know where to start, this is your download/shopping list.

I disagree with you on lots of things because you're a metal guy and I'm more of an emo kid (I would be those annoying kids in Swing Kids shirts if I was at that scene), but this was quite informative and I'm checking out your album suggestions. thanks! slightly disappointed by the lack of mention of "emo violence" though, lol.

Heh, well you can read my definitive SKRAMZ article for my thoughts on "emo violence" and all that, although I am sure you will hate it haha:

LOLOLOLOL @ Agents being emo violence! Those dudes were sketchy as FUCK bro, the FURTHEST thing you could get from emo- singer was a real scummy skater dude with 1 eye and 1 arm who lived in some shack in redwood city that looked like it was about to collapse

I haven't heard much about them. but they supposedly hate Jenny Piccolo's guts. «Agents of Satan hated us[.] It had to do with them talking shit and us, well me, writing a shitty comment on the wall of Train Wreck (the recording studio we did most of our stuff at)Agents actually came to a show we were playing in the attempt to beat us up. Unfortunately they came on the wrong day.» LOL. Spazz also supposedly hated JP for some reason?

I write for the popular magazines Decibel, Terrorizer and Substream as well as the popular website Something Awful and do things with the popular design entity Hella Mass Tight (http://hellamasstight.com) (a collective of tastemaking creative professionals).

I'm not even remotely fond of those designs.

Naps eh? I except you to write a definitive nap article sometime. That way you can quote it and tell certain people they are wrong when they say that they partake in "8 hour naps."

Man I take like 2 or 3 naps a day on the weekends, I'm fucking old as fuck

I think he was quoting someone in Jenny Picollo?
I don't think the dude is in a band. I think he just runs a blog.

I didn't write that. I am not/was not in a band. If I said otherwise, my mistake.

EDIT- Can't imagine anyone in Spazz HATING anybody for any reason (except for mb the graffiti crew US haha), seriously REAL nice dudes

I was quoting someone from Jenny Piccolo. Agents of Satan, Spazz and pretty much everyone else in the power violence milieu hated them and wanted to beat them up.

That's a shame. I kind of like you, even though I think those designs are mediocre and stock. You're pretty fun.
