story behind the dirtbags name is that back in the early 90s when long beach state wasn't very good they were losing by at least 10 runs one game and a drunk fan went on a rampage...spilling expletives and kept calling the players a bunch of dirtbags and somehow the name stuck

but they played a team who's nickname was the whoopie. and they were from macon, ga.
