I stopped watching Lost after it hit a rut in the 3rd season. Apparently it's gotten way better but that is a tough show to pick up in the middle. Will watch State of the Union online the next day so I can skip the endless applause

Wow. Don't think I can even visit this site anymore. When all you little idiots get older and don't like the way the country you live in is. You will have no right to be angry about it at all. Why? Because you didn't give a fuck. The country is in it's worst financial state since the great depression and still no one wants to get involved with politics? Cause they're lame? Is that what's going on? Sorry everyone, but in my opinion, not knowing what's going on in your own country is lame. Being completely ignorant to what's going on around you is lame. Pretty much being an oblivious moron is being lame. But go ahead kids, run away to your pretend fairy tale world of lost. Just to let everyone know, what happens in lost is fake. It WILL NOT affect anyone. What happens with the American government WILL affect everyone (that lives here). Back in the 60's and 70's kids 18-25 (not exclusively) would go out and get involved with government and riot when they didn't like the way things were going. The government used to be scared of the people. Now all you pansies just sit back and act like it doesn't exist and run away to hide in your pretend tv world. This is ridiculous. This is the most ignorant shit I've ever seen. I'm ashamed to be a part of this generation.
I know this may have been a bit over the top, but the kind of attitude I see here is disgusting. What happens in America is going to directly affect americans, obviously. As an american why would you not want to know what's going on in your own country? It's sad because this is just skimming the surface. Not only do kids not want to know what's going on in their country, but clearly they have no desire to change it.

the world is a different place now then in the 50s, 60s, and 70s...it may seem silly to say so, but protesting for change is just simply a lot harder to do now, for many reasons. There's more red tape, and although that may sound naive of me to think of, it's true. Think about all of the things we've changed in the past 10 years....not a whole lot. George Bush/Reagen dramatically changed the culture of this country, from enthusiastic policy changing americans to lazy "we know we cant change anything" americans. Plus we do live in a technoligcal world, which means, we have other things to keep ourselves occupied, rather than protesting (which sucks, I know, but it's the truth). If I didn't have the internet, 400 tv stations, and a whole lot of other facets of entertainment, then yeah, perhaps I would be protesting over every issue I care about.
Also, I know from my point of view I'm a little demoralized by the way our country and Obama have acted over the past year. We're still fighting wars, universal health care isn't being given a chance, and there's yet to be any radical change in anything. Whose fault is that? Obama? Hannity? Americans? The Youth? Perhaps. I would love to support the "bring the troops home" campaign, I would love to support some of anti-gun rally, I would love to support free college, higher wages, etc. But it's simply not going to do anything.
Now in comparing a state of the union address vs. LOST series finale first episode, it's a no brainer. What's Obama going to say that's going to be ground breaking at all? Nothing. I've heard all his rhetoric all ready, and it's been all talk...and he needs to hurry up. Republicans are starting to take back the country (it's natural) and I honestly have nothing to say in his defense. When it comes to a show like LOST, it's something we can get into to take us away from a country that we may or may not be happy with. That's WHY we have sports, movies, music, it's to take us AWAY from what would otherwise be a boring life.
Do I agree with you when it comes to the youth today not caring? Absolutely. Does it make me mad? Absolutely. In fact I think step one in fixing the nature of this nation is mobilization. It's the job of SOMEONE to take hold of the youth and make them care. But they won't, they wont care until they're adults...or something happens to them that they care about. Lol maybe when they start charging for facebook they'll start to care.

Honestly I dont understand how someone can vote neither. Unless you have a job or schoolwork, there's no excuse for that. Considering LOST and the address aren't the same time anymore, I can now comfortably watch both.

I'm very impressed with your reaction. Much more composed than I was originally when I responded to this thread haha. It just made me absolutely furious that no one seemed to care about what's going on in the country they live in. Especially coming mostly from the youth, who are supposed to be the passionate, energetic group in our population. Anyway, I bolded a couple of points you made I wanted to comment on.
You said, "it's not going to do anything." Referring to taking some kind of action for you know, whatever you may believe in. You were really just referring to the act of taking action. That's not a fact. It's an opinion, but I would regard it more as an attitude. If you don't think or even more importantly believe your actions will do anything, then ofcourse they won't. I think this is one of the biggest problems with alot of America's youth today.
You also said, "That's WHY we have sports, movies, music, it's to take us AWAY from what would otherwise be a boring life." I agree with you, and I think it's ok to get away from it all through some means every now and then, but so many people aren't using these luxuries to get away. They're living in them. For instance, an American teenager has a full day to do whatever he or she wants. They'll probably spend 3 hours playing video games, 3 hours watching tv or a movie, 3 hours on facebook or twitter or some shit, 5 hours hanging out with friends either getting fucked up somehow or playing video games and watching tv with their friends. That's going to be 14 hours leaving another 2 hours for necessities such as eating, showering, etc. Then 8 hours for sleep. Ofcourse I just made up all those numbers, but I'm confident that that's pretty accurate for how the youth of this country spends their free time. I mean that's the kind of stuff I did when I was younger before I woke up and realized I wanted to do something with my life before I died. So at the end of the day what has the person on this schedule accomplished? Nothing at all. Just completely uninvolved in anything that's going to be beneficial to their own self. Just basking in the luxury of being entertained.
I do pretty much agree with you on everything else you said, and thankyou for taking the time to read and respond. I appreciate it. It's always nice to know someone else in this generation isn't living on another planet.
