This is so hard. I used to listen to The Cure a lot but I listen to the Smiths way more now. I think I'm gonna go with The Cure though because of Boys Don't Cry. Two great bands.

The Cure. The Smiths lasted 4 years (?) and wrote some good songs. The Cure have been around for 30 years and have written many great songs...they may have not been consistent but they have so many epic songs in comparison to a few by the Smiths.

Let me start this off by saying I adore the Smiths, and all of Morrisseys solo music as well, BUT, The Cure are in my top 5 bands of all time, so I had to vote for them. They are unbelievable!

its never too late. I finally started listening to them this past fall, and it's worth it. I enjoy The Queen Is Dead the best, followed by the S/T album. Strangeways is really awesome too, but I'm not the biggest fan of Meat Is Murder, oddly enough

Well I think Strangeways is easily their weakest album. It just has too many boring lowpoints for me...Meat Is Murder would be next in line, because How Soon Is Now? is the worst song they ever wrote. The Queen Is Dead is a perfect record, it has Big Mouth Strikes Again...enough said. I recently bought their singles box set...and am so stoked on it.

It's THE best Smiths song and it's a perfectly written pop song. I could listen to that song and that song only for the rest of my life.

my personal favorite as cliche as it is "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" which is the first song I've ever heard by them. and John I don't think Strangeways is quite as bad as you say, for every weak song theres an awesome one, "Girlfriend In A Coma" and "Stop Me..." for example

Really hard. Both bands are good. but in the end I would probably say it's the cure. Robert Smith just kills it with the methaphoric lyrics. I mean Morrissey is good to but, it's just hard to choose.

I think I like The Smiths better in terms of their whole discography, but The Cure's "Disintegration" is probably my favorite release by either band. Although "The Queen is Dead" is pretty incredible too. Hmmm...
