New Band Feud

Seems like Daggermouth (http://www.myspace.com/daggermouth) and Nickleback (http://www.nickelback.com) have a little feud on their hands. Daggermouth sent out the following message to fans:
So I dunno if you people have heard yet, but last week The singer of that horrible band Nickelback got arrested for drunk driving in Vancouver. He also runs a record label called 604 records in Vancouver. well, after hearing about him drunk driving I decided to send a myspace message to his label saying "drunk driving is not cool...fuck that loser chad kroger...YAHHH!!!!! PAPERBACK NOVEL!! "

So their label chose to respond by saying "and making shitty music is not cool either, so please stop. have fun in your shitty basement apartment eating kraft mac n' cheese, loser. Nothing going on with your band, as usual."
Then they blocked us on myspace so i figured whatever, I'll just let it go. they know that we think drunk driving is hella weak. and then out of nowhere yeaterday they decided to write us again saying "hey....just curious....do you ever get to the point of going...."shit, no one really likes our music, no one is ever going to like our music, what the fuck are we doing this for?" At some point, you gotta realize you are not very good, right? and that this is pointless...then i guess you have some decisions to make.....should you get a job a Macdonald's, versus Wal Mart. Man....it must really suck to be you. "

And then they blocked us again like a bunch of pussies. So i decided to make a myspace post urging people to write them and tell them that drunk driving isnt cool. Anyways, to make a long story short they got hundreds of emails and are getting pretty pissed at us. But they have been pretty harsh to the people that have written in. and now they're threatening us with a fat slander lawsuit. hahahah

so now we are donating a dollar from item we sell over the next 2 months to MADD (mothers against drunk driving). And we are publicly urging those shit bags in Nickelback to do the same. So if youu hate Niickelback and drunk driving and want to cause some shit in there life head to www.myspace.com/604records (http://www.myspace.com/604records) and tell them how weak Nickelback are.

Set Your Goals are awesome. I think I'll take a listen to this band called Daggermouth. That's not much of a better name than Nickelback though, but if they make good music, that's all that matters.

I've never heard of Daggermouth until now, but I do think it's silly to fued with a band like Nickelback for no real reason from what I can tell. I wouldn't even say it's a feud between bands. I agree that Nickelback is some of the lamest and most generic corporate rock crap ever made, and they are one of the worst Canadian exports ever. BUT on the other hand...I think this dude from Daggermouth could stand to grow up a bit and support a good cause in another way. Drunk driving and Nickelback both suck, but we can at least deal with both issues in a more adult way.

Ok, aside from already determining that Nickelback sucks and the whole North American/America debate here, the pressing issue is the drunk driving.

Daggermouth is a punk band, a genre that once coincided with a certain set of ethics. These ethics are reflected in bands such as Against Me, Anti-Flag, Rise Against, etc... So it is really that shocking for a band in this genre to stick up for what they believe in? Furthermore, is it reprehensible for a band to stick up for what they believe in? We commend Ted Leo for calling Elton John out on his racism/nationalism (which is in the news here) and looking down the same news section we see Daggermouth calling out Chad Kroeger for drunk driving, and we find that terrible... if for any other reason than for the fact that Daggermouth isn't a huge band and subsequently don't have a lot of weight to pull in the scene and truly make a huge impact. Look at the good that is coming out of this situation, a band is using profits from their merch sales to give to Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Something to keep in mind, especially with smaller bands, is their merch sales are their entirety. Buying t-shirts and hoodies from them is what keeps their band alive and running. They are giving money from their own band's lifeforce to give to a great cause, and we are chastizing them for it? More bands should do things like this, get some of the ethics from days before back into this scene that is more known for fashion than music.
