I need some wedding song ideas that would be good for me and my fiance's wedding. We don't want the typical song list. I know this is absolute PUNK, but I also know musical interests cross over, so if you have any indie songs as well let me know. This would be a phenomenal help if you guys could help me out.

Check out the Vitamin String Quartet. They do string and piano versions of a lot of great bands(Thrice, Dashboard, The Cure, etc.) and popular songs(Coldpaly's "Clocks", Owl City's "Fireflies") that would be suitable for a wedding. I used a couple in my wedding.

Your wedding is not the time or place to show people how obscure your musical tastes are. Play the classics, and save the obscure stuff for your bachelor party.

False. Take it from someone who worked at a reception hall, any attempt to make your wedding unique is the best way to get the most out of the event. You really want to waste your one special day listening to the same tired garbage everyone else does?

Just off the top of my head, the list includes:

YMCA
Play that funky music white boy
thriller
I got friends in low places
that stupid adam sandler song from wedding singer
viva la vida (used for introductions)
electric slide
ABC - Easy as 123
Tonight's the night, let's live it up!

etc...

Playing Michael Jackson at a wedding is absolutely essential, and I'm sorry you had to work at lame weddings. I'm not saying you should play the YMCA, but nobody (especially not your fiance) wants to hear Anberlin.

Sorry for the double-post but... THIS!!!

Your wedding is about you and your spouse. The music played should be special to YOU and should be what YOU enjoy, not what everyone else wants to hear.

I saw that. Nice. I take it you're just as much a fan of High Fidelity as I am?

However, I'm not advocating Amberlin, Person L, or any bands of the like...unless they are what you'd prefer to hear.

I don't really care for those acts, but if the people who are getting married do, then play them. I will champion any effort to stray from the cookie-cutter receptions even if I don't care much for their taste.

The rest of your suggestions were good too. Haven't heard any of those used ever.

I guess my point is that you can pick good artists that people know and still have a unique soundtrack. Instead of Thriller, play Off the Wall. Instead of Celebration by Kool and the Gang, play Melt With You by Modern English.

I've seen High Fidelity many times, but I forgot it's in on the soundtrack. I only started liking that song as I got more and more into Stevie Wonder.

Dude, "Celebration" is (un-ironically) one of my favorite songs. You couldn't pick on "The Electric Slide" instead?
