Sir Elton John has slammed the England football team as a "disgrace" after Portugal knocked them out of the World Cup on Saturday.
The "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" singer made his feelings public when he made his comments during a gig in Bournemouth, hours after the quarter-final match finished.
John, who is friends with David Beckham, attributed most of the blame to coach Sven Goran Eriksson.

Now, everybody's got an opinion, and none of us are strangers to the Rocket Man's tongue lashings of late (saucy!), but think about this for a second - quoth Sir Elton:
"There has not been an outstanding player at this World Cup. I do not even want to talk about that f**king Sven Goran Abba-dabba.
"As always the England fans have been fantastic. They have been let down by the team and let down by people earning GBP125,000 a week.
"It's a disgrace."

Quite. I long for the day when, instead of a competition of players from differing nations playing against each other, we select teams by a far more worthy shared characteristic and get down to the real issue with a four-yearly Class-Consciousness Cup. I think the point I'm driving at is that Ted Leo doesn't seem to find it racist for teams to select players based on nationality when there are plenty of other, equally arbitrary, criteria by which teams could be chosen, but he does their managers.

Also, Sven was tactically inept, overpaid and generally useless.

If people knew the background to this story they wouldn't agree with Ted Leo. Sven Goran Erikson is a crap manager and engages in more backroom affairs than and national scandals than he does winning matches. Just because I think Elton John is acting like a huge queen bitch these days does not make me a homophobic nor a gay-basher. In fact, my grandfather and uncle were/are gay, and I support gay rights to the fullest degree.
