Bound for the Bronx?
Jul 5 - According to a report in Newsday, the Yankees have had highly regarded scout Jim Benedict in St. Petersburg the last two days scouting the Devil Rays. And the player Benedict is believed to be looking closely at is Aubrey Huff. Huff, in the final season of a three-year deal with the Rays, would fit into a corner outfield spot if the Yankees are able to acquire him.
"It doesn't have to be a knocker," Yankees manager Joe Torre told the paper about the kind of hitter his team needs. "Just somebody who can help our offense overall ... somebody who can help this team. I don't know who this player is."

L.A. story?
Jul 5 - The Cubs have begun to receive calls about the availability of Greg Maddux, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune. Maddux, in the final season of a three-year, $24 million deal, doesn't have a no-trade clause in his current contract, but it's believed the Cubs won't trade him unless he agrees to the deal.
The Dodgers are the among the teams who are thought to be interested in acquiring the 40-year-old Maddux.

Jul 5 - The Angels are finding few takers for Jeff Weaver, who was designated for assignment last week and is still owed $4 million for the remainder of this season. According to a report in the Los Angeles Times, Angels GM Bill Stoneman asked the Mets for outfield prospect Lastings Milledge in return for Weaver and was turned down.
The Angels will be forced to release Weaver by the end of this week if they are unable to trade him before then.

Goodbye Wrigley?
Jul 3 - Relief pitcher Scott Williamson, infielder-outfielder Phil Nevin and infielder Todd Walker are the players who the Cubs will most likely deal by the July 31 nonwaiver trading deadline. There's also a chance the Cubs could move stater Greg Maddux and outfielder Juan Pierre to a contending team. "I certainly feel we're capable of making some moves before the end of July," Cubs GM Jim Hendry told the Daily Herald. "With the situation we're in now, we certainly still feel like we've got a lot of quality people we can still build and turn it around quickly with.
"The people that may not factor in next year that may be able to help a club in a pennant race certainly could be available. Our intent would be to just try to make some logical trades and decisions based on moving forward toward '07, what we might be able to acquire or look into to make our club better for the next year."
Williamson, Nevin, Walker, Maddux and Pierre are all set to become free agents at the end of the 2006 season.

Jun 27 - Miguel Tejada's tardiness in arriving for games could lead the Orioles to deal their shortstop before the July 31 trade deadline, according to a report in the Washington Post. "I can't sit here and say we haven't talked about it," Orioles Vice President Jim Duquette told the paper. "It's a topic we've talked about with [manager] Sam [Perlozzo]."
An anonymous Orioles player also told the paper that Tejada, who is in the third year of a six-year, $72 million contract, is still popular among his teammates, but that his tardiness is an issue.
The Angels, Tigers and White Sox are three possibile suitors for Tejada in the next month.

i'm perfectly content with Carlos Guillen. We don't need another right handed masher. we need a left handed bat.

Standing 'Pat' on Abreu
Jun 26 - While the Tigers appear to have a significant interest in Phillies outfielder Bobby Abreu, GM Pat Gillick said he's staying put. "I know they're looking for left-handed hitters, but we're not getting rid of hitting right now," Gillick told the Philadelphia Daily News.
The Tigers might be willing to part with young pitching or a right-handed-hitting outfielder while also assuming part of Abreu's salary ($13M this year; $15M next year).
Yet Abreu has a no-trade clause he might not be willing to waive for Detroit.
"I'd have to think about all of that," he told the Daily News.

So basically it's probably Craig Monroe or Marcus Thames and i'd assume a pitching prospect as well. Not a horrible trade. right now carlos guillen is our main left handed hitting power guy. we need another left handed threat in our lineup because dimitri young isn't it.

Young the answer?
Jun 29 - The Tigers are believed to be actively pursuing a left-handed bat to add to their lineup, but that player could be one of their own: Dmitri Young. Young, who hasn't played in a game since May 21 after being granted a leave of absence by the team last month to deal with what the Tigers have called "a personal matter," pleaded no contest Tuesday to a domestic violence charge in Michigan.
He's expected to soon begin a workout and conditioning program in Florida, and depending on how that goes could find himself back with the Tigers in the next few weeks.
"If Dmitri comes back and plays the way he's capable of playing, that's a real plus for us," Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski told the Detroit Free Press. "But I don't think it's something you can necessarily say, 'OK, I'm counting on this.'
"He hasn't played a lot this year. Hopefully, he can regain what he did last year. I think he can, but we're not going to say this is our only answer."

ugh. no.
Dimitri would take up the DH spot which would put monroe or thames on the bench and i want either of them playing over dimitri. He's not the answer. He's coming back from an injury as well and will not be the answer.

I dont get insider but i assume the "Astros?" thing means the stros might be intrested in him. I really hope they arnt, because looking at his stats this year, they arnt too great, nearly same type of stats as preston wilson and people have been giving him shit all year. i doubt it will happen. the phillies will probably keep him and keep sucking.

what i'd like to see happen is we trade Roman Colon and another pitching prospet like a Humberto Sanchez and if they're stupid enough take Todd Jones, then throw him in there, to Atlanta for John Smoltz and make him our closer.

Why would the Astros trade for a lefty? All they need is a bunch of fly ball hitting rightys and they will score 10 runs a game.

Another rumor which is Sox are intrested in getting Andruw Jones, they where susposed to get him last year instead of Dye. Kenny Williams might trade Garland and Anderson for him.
I hate Garland, but Anderson has soild D, and he's been swinging the bat pretty well as of late.

The blue jays aren't in the market for another outfield. They have one of the best outfields in baseball. If anything a middle infielder like Tejada or a pitcher would most likely peak their interest

I know. i will be so, so crushed if that trade goes down.
I would go with this however: trade Roman Colon (who they didn't really want to give up last year for farnsworth) and a pitching prospect like a Humberto Sanchez and possibly Todd Jones if they'll take him off our hands (won't happen) for Smoltz, and then we have him close.
