the day this show goes off the air...I will be a wreck and probably take a week off from work and school to recover. Seriously.
The ending to that episode tonight made me shed a tear. THIS is why the simpsons is just an unbeatable show. Their best episodes are those that mix awesome subtle humor, with a touch of emotion into it. And it's just amazing that they can keep going.
We all know that the simpsons will never be able to live up to its own expectations that it created in the seasons 3-11 years...but it's still a wonderful show and better than 90% of the crap thats on tv.
And it still rips out a few good episodes from time to time with plenty of good chuckles along the way. There's no other way in describing the show other than, its a legend that's a part of most of our lives. It's kind of sad that the show doesnt get the sort of recognition from the youth that it should, since they're all so freakin spoiled by the non-sensicle manitee writing family guy type shows, but clearly the show is still popular, and I hope it never dies. It's the only entertainment show, movie, artist, whatever...that I actually feel like I owe them something, because I would not be who I am if it wasn't for the humor they've given me.

I usually try to watch it when it's on. Tonight's episode had one moment that had me laughing pretty hard but overall, it is a shell of what it once was.

I was able to season 4 reruns and they were great. A great show indeed. However, the show is way past it's prime. The Simpsons is like a beloved family pet that is terminally sick and no one has the courage to put it down. But on the other hand I want to see the Simpsons going particularly since it asks as a counterweight Seth McFarlane's half assed cartoons dominating the airwaves.

I forgot how much I love the Simpsons. I swear, this show needs to be syndicated near me. It's not on my local Fox station which just amazes me.

with Fry and Leyla sharing a "touching" moment. I remember that, it was pretty perfect if you ask me.
But lets be serious here, I think the finale for the simpsons is a little more complex and interesting than the finale of futurama, as much as it grew on me (futurama)

The one where Milhouse's parents get divorced is hilarious. Also the Beer Baron episode, and "You Only Move Twice" (the episode where the family moves to Cypress Creek and Homer works for the supervillain Scorpio).

Then I take back my comment hahah.
I am a fucking idiot
My favorite episodes:
- Bart Vs. Australia
- Itchy and Scratchy Land
- Summer of 4 ft. 2
- Bart on the Road
- Homer at the Bat
There's too many, I'll just leave it at those five. Any show 20 years in is not going to be at its prime, but The Simpsons is still better than mostly anything you'll find on television today, and I really believe seasons 3-9 were the greatest television ever created.. I can't believe it's been on 20 years already, here's hoping for many more years.
Then I take back my comment hahah.

Man, I grew up with this show. I have seasons 1-8 on DVD. I'll probably add 9-12 to the collection and call it quits after that. The special was great.
One of my favorite Simpsons moments:
Itchy and Scratchy Land episode:
Bart reads the novelty license plates in the gift shop..."Barry, Barclay, Bert, BORT?" Random lady - "Come along now, Bort." Random man - "Are you talking to me?" Lady - "No, my son is also named Bort."
Later in the episode as they pan through the control center of the park, you hear: "We are out of 'Bort' license plates in the gift shop. I repeat, we are out of 'Bort' license plates in the gift shop."
the whole "bort" joke basically sums up the great sense of humor the simpsons had. really great choice.
one of my favorites has to be when homer is drunk, writing a love letter to marge:
“Marge, you got a butt that won’t quit, they got these chewy pretzels and ahhhraaahaaaraaaaahaaharaaaa 5 DOLLARS! Get outta here."
also, check out this site for a refresher of the best quotes/episodes (be sure to read the comments too):

Any one catch what the thank you message was at the end of the episode?

The episode, which was broadcast on Sunday, ended with an on-screen display that read, “Thanks for 20 wonderful years. The best is yet to come.” But in a version of the show that was sent in advance to critics, the message read slightly differently: as Alessandra Stanley noted in her review of the episode, it said, “Thanks for 20 wonderful years. Now stay tuned for three Seth MacFarlane shows.”

Homer: How could you?! Haven’t you learned anything from that guy who gives those sermons at church? Captain Whatshisname? We live in a society of laws! Why do you think I took you to all those Police Academy movies? For fun? Well, I didn’t hear anybody laughing, did you? Except at that guy who made sound effects. *Makes sound effects and laughs.* Where was I? Oh yeah! Stay out of my booze.
Hahaha.

Can someone tell me; are there ANY recurring storylines on the show? I wanted to start catching up on the, I don't know, 15 seasons I've missed, but would prefer to start with the most recent season and work my way backwards, until I get to episodes that I remember having seen before. But I don't want to do that if there's some running storyline I'm going to be confused by.

Do you mean in the entire history of the show or just recently?

this is the first season that I haven't followed closely, but in the past, there have never been recurring storylines. Although, I'd recommend going in order just because in terms of quality, it goes from great to average to pretty terrible. Starting at terrible may stop you from getting to the great stuff.

No, I plan to watch the whole thing. Might as well start with the bad stuff, get it out of the way.
