i'm not sure about this one. something i just kind of wrote one morning...
“Our Plan”
They fed our loneliness with clear views of the flowers
Growing just beyond the windowpanes
So we sat with our hands to the glass for hours
As every youthful dream hung between doorframes
So, on the first day of the week
We all took turns swinging from the bell tower
As our parents spoke in arrogant conversations
Our necks stretched like the pews full of souls so distant
Who came at habit or just guilt?
Reciting words they never took the time to understand
The bodies will be found
Give the desperate voice their due
Before your children are led out into the sunlight
Where they see the awful truth
That behind every intention is an even better excuse
So let the gunshot wake the whole neighborhood
They can come running to the rescue
“To find my body in an awful shake”
This time, we will dress in our mistakes
And hate ourselves for them like they always wanted us to
And when dawn strikes, we’ll be found asleep
Laying on our backs in the middle of the street
Giving up, with every breath we release
“The first shot woke the whole house and the second put us back to sleep”
With neckties for blindfolds
And shoelaces tying are hands
This is a dream, this is a dream...
Toss and turn
To the beat of the nightmare that reoccurs
Is it ever really okay?
Falling in between these sheets, the lights burn out
This lullaby offers no release, it’s not okay
So pull the shades closed, like a curtain marking the end of the play
And we can all go home, we can all sleep safe
The murderers have been taken away
So raise your voice, like a glass
As we all sing
“This is all a dream; this is all only a dream”
