View Full Version : Medical Marijuana was legalized in NJ!

Finally. The Government is finally getting some common sense. First comes medical marijuana and soon after it will be fully legalized. Prohibition did not work in the 1920s and making pot an illicit drug isn't working either. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/12/nyregion/12marijuana.html?partner=rss&emc=rss&src=igw

Some educators and law enforcement advocates worked doggedly against the proposal, saying the law would make marijuana more readily available and more likely to be abused, and that it would lead to increased drug use by teenagers.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha, are they retarded? It's easier to get weed from your doctor than your local park dealer? Ha ha ha ha ha, in what universe?

I think their concern is with people using their prescriptions to sell the drug/give it to friends, just like all other prescription drugs. Luckily, marijuana is the safest prescribed medicine known in the world. So their concern is still bogus.

There could be people who try to get it as a medicine for depression. How many people who take Xanax actually have anxiety problems? This is why our doctors have become legal drug dealers.

My point was (and is) if they're concerned about weed being easy to get...well it's a little late for concern.

Totally, which is why I am for full legalization. Its much harder for kids and teens to get a hold of a drug when you have to go through a licensed distributor in order to buy it.

It's a shame it's so misunderstood and reviled, I had major focusing and concentration issues all through school (still have them now) and if the situation was different, maybe I could have had some medical marijuana as a natural Ritalin.

That's almost the exact same thing for me, except I slowly fell out of college, started working in a restaurant...and the rest is history. Now I am getting back in to college. Ha ha ha ha, I could barely stay focused long enough to tie my sneakers in high school.

I had a lot of issues in high school. It got to a point where I just had to drop out and get a GED. Never stopped the pursuit of an education though. I probably learned more on my own than in school hahaha. I'm pretty pumped about going back to school though.

Same thing. I always loved learning, but it needed to come in the form of some kind of project or a History Show, etc., Bill Nye kind of crap, because you could never get me to sit still long enough to read a textbook. Hell, I could barely sit still long enough to read books I wanted to read.
Now I'm excited to go back because my 'Ritalin' allows me to slow down and focus on tedious shit like studying. Some people take for granted being able to do that.

I am not pro legalizing marijuana in general, which I realize isn't the popular opinion on here, but I do think it is good people who are sick and in pain can find some relief now. I would never wanna deny someone terminally ill to feel better, but I really hope this isn't one step closer to fully legalizing it.

i feel like sooner or later the situation will be somewhat similar to when alcohol was illegal back in the 1920's. then just one day it will be legal. i think its kinda silly how alcohol/drugs are legal which could have a long term damaging effect on your body as opposed to the Ganj which has none...

Stupid. I'm an educator who plans to vote for legalisation in Ohio if it ever comes up. A lot of good can come from it, both from a medical and an economical (especially if legalised for recreational use and regulated/taxed) standpoint.

In the 1920's, during prohibition, medical alcohol was granted for people with bogus illnesses, just as today with bud. I can never understand how the fed can make weed illegal but nicotine legal. Nicotine kills hundreds of thousands more people annually, if not millions.
But anyway, good for New Jersey! Pennsylvania just did the same.

1) Marijuana legalization and regulation will occur in our lifetime. So even recreational users will freely smoke up in the privacy of their own home.
2) You're unhappy based on your history of posting on these forums. You feel the need to interject every aspect of your personal experiences, trying to gain any type of acceptance. You tell your little stories, want people to listen, and when they get mad and react, you revel in their critical responses. You love returning to the forums to read how others respond. You get a hard on just from saysyourdoctor's responses. To me, that just shows how much you depend on reaching out to strangers on the web for any source of human interaction.

1. And? It doesnt automatically give them the freedom to do it in public
a. I find the need for medical marijuana and the need to find a cure for these people so that they dont have to use this to be more important than the "right" for recreational users to smoke freely
2. It's nice to see that you think you know it all but you are so horribly and sadly confused.
a. I'm satisfied enough with my life, if I was unhappy, I'd do something to fix it
b. I'll tell my personal experiences as a way to give people insight on my opinions or as a way to connect with people and let them know I've been through what they're going through so that they dont feel alone. Not to get people to listen and definitely not to gain acceptance. It would be pretty fucking pathetic of me to need that from the internet when I have other humans all around me if I really needed that.
c. No, in fact I'm a pretty sensitive person and words do upset me very much, I actually hurts when I get called a liar after giving advice.
d. I'm not exactly sure what a 19 year old boy who I've never met has to do with me at all.

i'll add that she made some rather unfounded assumptions about those who've posted in this thread.......and she likes posting about killing herself every few weeks in the mental disorder thread.
I am open about suicide both in my real life and in a thread about mental disorders (most of which have symptoms that include thoughts of suicide) I see no problem with it, I see no problem with talking about it openly instead of keeping it a taboo and acting like it never happens. But whatever, its not a fucking problem at all, certainly not in the state that we live in you fucking asshole.
By the way, did I say my "assumptions" were about the people in this thread? Hmmm nope.

that paragraph has nothing to do with anything but for the record i don't mind talking about suicide (if you feel like offing yourself it's probably best to talk to those close to you and a professional about it though)....my point was that those who consider suicide generally aren't happy with their lives.
you said something like "i like how y'all act like this means you can smoke in your front yards now" (when no one was acting like that). if y'all wasn't supposed to mean the people in this thread who exactly were you referring to?

Y'all as in everyone who's excited about this.
edit: that doesnt really matter though, I got side tracked by who I was or was not making assumptions about that I completely forgot the fact that I wasnt making assumptions in the first place, people on this site have said that they'd like to smoke outside instead of being paranoid inside. That being said, I did let my anger on this subject get the best of me.

Given the fact that I have a long history with it, I'll admit whatever if that's the case, but the fact of the matter is that I've made the decision to try again, and that decision has made me way happier.
That wasnt even the point of my original post, my point was that it was upsetting that people were getting excited about getting closer to gaining the freedom to have some recreational pot time when medical marijuana should be more about the diseases it's supposed to help.

And y'all act like medical marijuana being legalized automatically gives you the right to smoke a bowl on your front lawns like a bunch of hicks. This gives some sick people some tiny relief which is hardly enough but good for them, its not like they need other things in life, like cures...no marijuana which will eventually lead to your freedom to smoke in the front lawn so that you dont have to feel so paranoid is all that matters.
Nobody acted like potential legalization in Jersey gave us 'hicks' (fuck you, by the way) the right to smoke in our front lawns. We're all educated enough to know that this is merely one of the first steps towards legalization. As well, I didn't know that my dislike towards the illegality of weed was mutually exclusive to my empathy towards those with diseases. I thought they could live hand in hand, maybe even share a jay with a cancer patient, you know, shoot the shit.
Correction, I treat stoners like idiots when they think that medical marijuana being legalized in one state means that they can toke it up freely before heading off to work or class.
Correction, you're the only one who thought that, and in a wonderful comedic twist, you got really pissed off at everyone else for no one else feeling that way.
1. And? It doesnt automatically give them the freedom to do it in public
a. I find the need for medical marijuana and the need to find a cure for these people so that they dont have to use this to be more important than the "right" for recreational users to smoke freely.
1. No shit.
a. Marijuana is a natural substance. It grows from seeds that I can find in the Earth. That's all the 'right' I need to smoke it as a human on this planet, and no person or government can tell me different.
By the way, did I say my "assumptions" were about the people in this thread? Hmmm nope.
Your assumption was a word for word recount of a post of mine (I used the exact 'sitting on my lawn' example), however, it wasn't from this thread.

Then what was the point of your post? That people apparently either have to support sick people or smoke marijuana? Or the thinly veiled hint that anyone who would smoke in public is a 'hick'? Or was it you suggesting that everyone thought legalization in Jersey for medical marijuana meant that next week we could smoke in front of cops, when no one suggested that?
I guess I missed the point somewhere in there, so can you clear it up for me?

Well Yogi, it's sad that theres more excitement about the future of the legality of marijuana than there is any discussion whatsoever of the diseases get people medical marijuana in the first place, or even how much it helps with those diseases.
If you smoke a jay on your front lawn with a cancer patient and call it bonding or say thats your way of support, then whatever. But I can promise you, if my MS ever gets to the point where I need it and someone comes up to me and says "hey I totally feel for you, I want to help you out and support you and bond with you, I brought my own ganja how about we just chill on the front lawn" I'll start choking that person on the spot.

Are you serious?
You know why no one is talking about the diseases that people have that they treat with medical marijuana?
1.) We're not doctors.
2.) We're not sick.
3.) We don't care.
4.) No one brought it up until you freaked out about it.
5.) It's not that big a deal.
6.) I don't see your whole problem here.
I just need you to clarify so I can understand;
You interpreted people's excitement over the loosening of medical marijuana laws as something selfish? You do realize the excitement was over the fact that lawmakers are starting to legalize/talk about marijuana in a different light as (most people agree) weed should at least be decriminalized.
To see lawmakers legalizing pot made us excited because that meant that lawmakers and the average voter were finally seeing marijuana in a new (non-Demonized) light. Some of us made the connection that this may be the moment where the talk/feelings on marijuana turns around, where maybe even, one day, some of us could enjoy a jay on our own property on our front lawn, apparently like a 'hick', right?
I just don't understand how anyone being excited about this new view on medical marijuana/marijuana someone dehumanizes or hurts someone with a chronic disease? You're going to have to explain that one better, because the two things aren't mutually exclusive. No one is talking about the diseases because the main point of this thread, in this Politics section, is the discussion of marijuana legality, not disease discussion.
If you wanted a disease discussion so badly, you should have started it (we all know how well that would have turned out) instead of flipping out on the invisible everybody and backhandedly referring to me as a hick.

No, they are responses to your original point, which was (unless I'm mistaken) that you were angry that people connected legalization of medical marijuana with decriminalization of marijuana (which, no matter what you think of it, would encompass smoking in a front yard if you so wanted) because you, apparently, think that if anyone is so selfish as to want to see marijuana decriminalized, they have absolutely no empathy for those who are sick and use marijuana to cope.

I've already said that's not what I meant at all, I never meant to imply that smoking weed meant that you couldnt try to help those dieases, I was trying to say that nobody has mentioned them at all, that nowhere in any discussion at all whatsoever of medical marijuana has there been a discussion of the diseases they're supposed to help. There's hardly a discussion of how much it may or may not help them in the first place. All there ever is, is a discussion of the obvious, the future of your ability to smoke it in your front lawn freely.
By the way it does sound a little bit selfish when you say that nobody cares, I know that nobody does care, but you probably shouldnt complain about what I think if you're going to say that nobody cares.

Throughout all the marijuana debates I've seen on this site, this Zion chick has only been obsessed with her moral objection to the plant, and continues to try to justify her moral objection. Yeah, yeah, yeah, she supposedly supports it for medical reasons only. Here's a list of some illnesses/symptoms that medical marijuana could be used to treat.
# Alzheimer's Disease
# Anorexia
# AIDS
# Arthritis
# Cachexia
# Cancer
# Crohn's Disease
# Epilepsy
# Glaucoma
# HIV
# Migraine
# Multiple Sclerosis
# Nausea
# Pain
# Spasticity
# Wasting Syndrome
# Depression
That could apply to anyone. Specifically nausea, pain, and depression. Marijuana could easily become an over-the-counter drug. No matter what, there are going to be people who use it for recreational purposes. To hate someone for that, would be the same for hating a person for drinking milk.
People like this are ignorant and prejudice. They assume everyone is smoking weed to get fucked up. I hope one day, that these people will understand smoking pot is not a big deal, and that its not right to judge a person to for using a substance for relaxation or medication.

Milk is a beverage someone enjoys, and its essentially harmless. Same with marijuana.
